Job Description - Family Preservation Paid Intern


SUMMARY:

Under the administrative and clinical supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the Family Preservation Intern provides family and individual assessment, counseling, referral and linkage, skill building and relationship-building, crisis management and crisis planning, supportive services, and Psychotherapy as appropriate to caregivers, children, and families in Cuyahoga County. Sessions occur in the home and community, as prescribed by the service type (IIH, PT Conflict, FINS, Reunification, FRS) on a time-limited basis. Coordination with DCFS and other formal supports is expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Submit reports and documents in a timely manner consistent with Child and Family Focused contractual expectations.
  • Work within team setting and coordinate with ongoing DCFS worker and other professionals involved in case.
  • Provide family and individual assessment (if appropriate) to determine treatment and service needs of the family.
  • Integrate DCFS concerns and recommendations into treatment plans.
  • Coordinate treatment needs with FP TBS worker, if appropriate.
  • Identify problems within family system and utilize appropriate interventions to address diverse family needs.
  • Identify needed resources/referrals and make necessary linkages to assist with stabilization and to ensure ongoing support for the family.
  • Analyze appropriate situations in need of crisis intervention and make mandated reports to KIDSLINE, the DCFS caseworker, the family, supervisors and collateral contacts as indicated.
  • Perform all other tasks as required regarding case and documentation management, submits billing documents, consent documents and case tracking as required.
  • Assess for additional needs, including Medicaid-reimbursable services and complete all necessary Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluations, Treatment Plans, and progress notes in accordance with agency and regulatory expectations.

OTHER DUTIES:
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going trainings.
  • All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards.
  • Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment.  All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
  • Assure that staff maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education:     Minimum Bachelor’s degree required. Must be enrolled in an accredited Master of Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy program.
  • Licensure:      Valid Ohio Trainee license (Social Work Trainee, Counselor Trainee, Marriage and Family Therapy Trainee), or higher, required.

    • Interpersonal Communication: Communicates clearly using verbal, nonverbal, and written skills in a professional context; demonstrates clear understanding and use of professional language.
    • Professional & Ethical Conduct: Adheres to professional values such as honesty, personal responsibility, and accountability; applies ethical concepts within scope of work and adheres to Agency policies and procedures.
    • Collaboration & Teamwork: Functions effectively as a member of a professional team that includes employees, clients and family members.
    • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Recognizes problems and responds appropriately; gathers information and sorts through it to identify and address root cause issues; makes timely decisions.
  •  Other: Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the underwriting criteria of the Agency’s insurance company.
