Description

Title: Farm Activities Coordinator Internship

Reports to: Farm Manager

Summary of Job Responsibilities:

Assist in creating a safe, healthy, and enjoyable space for all visitors to the farm. Assist in the

care of crop fields, farm property grounds, animal health and well-being, and activity

implementation. Position requiring a flexible work schedule to effectively perform the essential

functions of the job. Participate in programming that meets the standards of content and quality

with an emphasis on the advancement of person-specific ISP goals. Ensure professional

communication with all stakeholders, uphold and support the organization's mission, philosophy

and values. Assist in creating person-centered, supportive learning environments that safeguard

and enhance the lives of the people served. Work in collaboration with employees and

management at all levels of the organization to implement and ensure compliance with agency

standards and systems. This is a part-time, three month paid internship.

Essential Functions & Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Promote and protect the rights and dignity of each person served and extend these rights

and dignities to family members and guardians. Continually monitor support

relationships for potential abusive or neglectful situations. Advocate on behalf of each

person served.

2. Assist with animal and vegetable care. Including feeding animals, weeding garden beds,

planting, and harvesting.

3. Work with managers to offer activities ideas and suggestions to be shared within the

organization.

4. Participate in groups and programs that consider the needs, abilities, and interests of the

participants. Offer a variety of formats including small group, one on one, and large

group activities.

5. Work with staff to support a wide variety of participants who have varying needs.

6. Participate in the monitoring and review of program plans (activities, routines, strategies,

programming, etc.) to ensure relevance and effectiveness.

7. Assist in maintaining an inventory of all activity related supplies.

8. Communicate in a positive, professional manner with the individuals served, family

members and/or guardians, other service providers, management personnel, medical

personnel and other stakeholders of the organization.

9. Assist in other programming as needed such as small animal visitations or cooking class.

10. Uphold and comply with all safety programs and policies to maintain a safe work

environment for the people we support, employees, family members and visitors.

11. Safeguard the confidentiality of each person served.

12. Maintain regular informal and formal communication with supervisor and team members

and provide written communication if or when required.

13. Act as a positive role model in dress, hygiene, demeanor and behavior.

14. Be punctual, arrive to work on time and remain until the end of your scheduled shift.

Directly notify supervisor each time there may be a chance of being tardy.

15. Perform other duties as directed by supervisor related to the organization's mission, goals

and operations.

Internal/External Relationships:

Internal: Frequently and on a continual basis with employees and managers from all departments and programs within the organization.

External: Frequently and on a continual basis as described in responsibilities, including persons served, family members, community members.


Requirements

Working Conditions:

Working conditions will primarily be outdoors in most weather conditions. Otherwise they will

be varied and flexible to include office conditions (computer, etc.), outdoor events, at the

location where the individual is receiving services or the homes of the people served; in local

community groups/committees, etc.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

Ability to deal with a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Critical thinking, and the

ability to demonstrate good judgement in developing solutions. Ability to implement program

plans based upon standards and regulations. Combination of sitting, standing and walking must

be able to lift 25 lbs.

Experience:

Experience with or interest in working with farm animals and crops. Experience directly

supporting people with developmental disabilities and experience working outdoors is a plus.

Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as a part of a

team.

Position Type:

Part-time (20 hours per week), 3 months duration (some flexibility in occasional weekend

coverage preferred) This is a paid internship.
