Department: Education and Public Program, Film Programs Reports to: Associate Director, Film Programs; Manager, Public Engagement Job Type: Seasonal Job Classification: Hourly (Non-exempt) Workplace Location: Los Angeles – Academy Museum Compensation: $18.47 per hour
Job Summary: The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is seeking an organized, enthusiastic intern to assist the Education and Public Engagement and Film Programs teams. The intern will support the creation and implementation of a robust calendar of museum programming around the upcoming temporary exhibition, The Horror Show. Areas of programming will focus on workshops, public programs, and gallery discussions and tours, as well as the museum’s film programs that include ongoing screenings, limited series dedicated to experimental and independent film, and films programmed to accompany planned exhibitions.
The intern is expected to complete 400 hours of internship in 10 weeks. Upon completion, the intern will better understand best practices and approaches to museum education, as well as working collaboratively to plan and implement museum programming for diverse audiences.
This position is well-suited for undergraduate students majoring or planning to major in film studies, sociology, ethnic studies, media studies, world history, art history, museum studies, or related fields in the humanities and social sciences. Previous museum experience is not necessary for this internship.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Design and create visitor-focused activities.
Assist in planning Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility initiatives within youth, film education, and in-gallery programs.
Conduct thematic, title, and filmmaker-specific research.
Other responsibilities include assisting with introducing film screenings, print sourcing, writing screening notes, and other public programs preparation, as needed.
Required Competencies:
Attend college in or be a permanent resident of Los Angeles County.
Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate in either a bachelor’s degree program or an associate’s degree program. Students must have completed at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2026. Students who graduated after April 1, 2026, are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program or have received a prior BA, BS, or higher degree are not eligible.)
Excellent writing, research, public speaking, and organizational skills, and strong attention to detail.
Physical Demands:
If in-person work is possible during the internship, must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of more than 2 hours.
