Job Description - Graduate Fellow

Terms of Reference
ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

The Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) is a non-profit organization committed to protecting the rights and safety of displaced and migrant women and girls in the U.S. and around the world. Since its founding 35 years ago, WRC has advanced policies and programs that safeguard the rights of displaced women, children, and youth, while transforming humanitarian systems to be more inclusive, responsive, and accountable. WRC has a proven record of combining rigorous research, monitoring, and advocacy to advance women’s rights and influence both U.S. and global policy and practice.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Advocacy Support (Primary Focus):

Support the Lead Researcher and Advocacy Officer in advancing WRC’s Monitoring and Mitigating Harms portfolio
Assist in preparing for and conducting field research, including background research, data collection tools, informed consent materials, and ethics documentation
Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings to inform research design and advocacy strategies
Help organize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to ensure the production of rigorous, actionable research outputs
Assist in drafting and editing research reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials that reflect WRC’s standards for quality and integrity
Track and summarize relevant policy developments, humanitarian practices, and trends impacting displaced women and girls
Help ensure WRC’s research outputs meet high standards of methodological rigor and ethical responsibility, reinforcing WRC’s position as a serious research organization

Fundraising and Development Support:

Assist with donor research, data entry, and tracking in fundraising systems
Draft, edit, and format donor communications including acknowledgment letters, updates, and proposal components

Qualifications

Current graduate student in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, public policy, gender studies, global health, human rights, or nonprofit management)
Strong interest in humanitarian issues, gender equity, and applied policy research
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
Experience with or interest in ethical and field-based research methods preferred
Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and research tools; experience with qualitative analysis software (e.g., NVivo, Dedoose) or CRM systems like Salesforce is a plus

LOCATION
Remote or New York City (Hybrid options available)

DURATION
Part-Time (10 hours/week)

COMPENSATION:
Hourly, commensurate with experience
