Job Description - Grid Intelligence Intern - Real-time Simulations

Eaton\u2019s Research Lab (ERL) has an exciting and rewarding position as an Intern on Energy Systems to support research and technology development in power grid intelligence programs. This position will be based at our Golden, Colorado office, and the internship period is May to August, 2026.\n\nThe hourly rate for this position is $35-$40 per hour per hour.\n\nPlease note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. \n\n## What you\u2019ll do:\n\nAs a key contributor to ground-breaking research at Eaton Research Labs you will be performing research and development into cutting edge power grid technologies with identification of market opportunities, implementation and demonstration in a realistic utility or critical facility environments. The successful candidate will be challenged with engaging in research programs on grid automation, cyber security and resiliency, power systems control, stability, and fault management. \n \nThe candidate will support real-time testbed development and demonstration of advanced protection and control algorithms for critical infrastructure with grid security and support functions. \n \nIn this role you will: \n\u2022 Assist with implementation and evaluation of advanced protection and control algorithms addressing fault management, resilient and secure operation of critical infrastructure power systems utilizing both offline and real-time simulation platforms. \n\u2022 Support real-time control and protection testbed development, including software in the loop and hardware in the loop environments \n\u2022 Contribute to development and validation of high-fidelity power system models with real time simulation platforms\n\n## Qualifications:\n\n * PhD Student from an accredited institution or MS student with 3+ years of Industrial or Entrepreneurial experience\n * Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future\n\n\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\n * Currently located within 50-mile radius of Golden, CO\n * In-depth knowledge of power system principles and their practical applications.\n * Proficiency in real-time environments such as RTDS. Ability to interface real-time environments with industry-standard controllers to demonstrate advanced protection concepts. \n * Proficiency in power system modeling and simulation tools such as PSCAD and RSCAD. \n * Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, and C++. \n * Knowledge and understanding of IEC 61850 concepts and ability to translate that to virtual environments. \n\n\n\n## Skills:\n\nPosition Criteria \n\u2022 Good combination of education and application experience \n\u2022 Enthusiasm and capabilities in technology R\u0026D, demonstration and presentation\n\nThe application window for this position is anticipated to close on March 31st\n\nWe are committed to ensuring equal employment opportunities for all job applicants and employees.
