Job Description - Heat Pump Research Intern

Green Energy Consumers Alliance is seeking a heat pump research intern to join our team for Summer 2026. We are a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower consumers and communities to speed a just transition to a zero-carbon world through green energy programs, education, and advocacy.  


 


Our energy programs offer New Englanders: 



  • Education and shopping tools for electric vehicles 



  • Green electricity for homes, offices, and whole communities 



  • Efficient electricity and heating 



  • Advocacy for climate-friendly energy policy 
     


Internship responsibilities include: 



  • Heat Pump Research & Policy Support 



  • Conduct research deep dives related to heat pump adoption, rates, incentives, and affordability 



  • Track and summarize key developments in regulatory dockets, including heat pump–related proceedings in Massachusetts and Rhode Island 



  • Assist staff with background research and memo preparation for policy advocacy and regulatory filings 



  • Education & Outreach 



  • Support planning and execution of Mass Save and Clean Heat Rhode Island education efforts, including webinars and in-person events 



  • Attend and table at community events and outreach activities 



  • Communications & Program Support 



  • Draft occasional written communications for members and program participants 



  • Develop outreach materials such as flyers, email content, and social media posts 



  • Provide general program administrative support and other projects as assigned 


Required Qualifications: 



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; 



  • Strong research skills; 



  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to closely follow written procedures; 



  • Experience with outreach and communications. 


 


Desired Qualifications: 



  • Interest in heat pumps and energy efficiency, with a desire to learn more; 



  • Fluency in a second language; 



  • Experience coordinating events, webinars, or outreach activities; 



  • Experience
    conducting research and synthesizing complex information.
     
     


Eligible Candidates Include: 


Students or recent graduates of a college or a training program in Rhode Island OR who are residents of Rhode Island. Prospective interns must also meet one (1) of the following:  
 



  • Students must have completed or will complete at least their freshman year of college the semester before the internship (24 Credits) or have graduated within the past year;    



  • If a student attends or attended a community college (or 2
    year associate program), the student must have completed at least 24 credits;  
     



  • If a student has attended a training program, that program must have been completed within the last year;  



  • If a student attends an out-of-state university, they must provide proof of RI residency; OR  



  • Graduate students must be currently enrolled in their program or have completed it within the last year.

This 12-week internship with negotiable hours (ideally 37.5
hours/week) will be conducted in a hybrid fashion, working both remotely and at least one day a week from our office in Providence, RI or Cambridge, MAThe session will start around May 15, 2026
and end around August 31, 2026. The hours can be fulfilled around your schedule, but must be during 9am-6pm M-F. The pay is $22.00/hr. Occasional nights
and weekend days may be necessary to
staff events.
