Job Description - Humanities Teacher / Internship Coordinator 25-26 School Year

Job description

Humanities teachers at 5280 High School engage students in a project-based learning curriculum that is aligned to English and Social Studies academic standards. Humanities teachers provide English and Social Studies instruction within an interdisciplinary structure. The following areas of study are synthesized and enhanced through a Project Based Learning (PBL) approach: classic and modern literature; creative and academic writing; public speaking; research and reasoning; continuity and change throughout modern history; economics; civics; and geography. The role also includes supporting “Crew”, 5280’s advisement program, as a Crew Captain (advisory teacher).

5280 teachers are passionate, creative, collaborative, and thrive in teams. They are student-centered and divergent thinkers. They embrace diversity and inclusion, foster learning and growth, and believe in and honor the big ideas of all students. Teachers at 5280 frequently provide instruction within an interdisciplinary structure. The areas of study within courses are synthesized and enhanced through a Project Based Learning (PBL) approach.

5280 Teachers:

  • Encourage a culture of mutual respect and equitable practice

  • Exhibit knowledge of student cognitive development and various learning styles

  • Implement the four 5280 Design Principles (equity, authenticity, intentional community, and joy & meaning)

  • Communicate effectively with students and families about classroom activities and student progress

  • Demonstrate content knowledge, including the Colorado Academic Standards

  • Set high academic achievement expectations

  • Identify and support students’ social, emotional, and behavior learning needs

  • Implement Project Based Learning (PBL) techniques and strategies

  • Facilitate and design effective group work

  • Provide timely feedback and collaborate with faculty to offer specialized support

  • Foster student growth through Digital Portfolios (DPs), semi-annual Student-Led Conferences (SLCs) and Presentations of Learning (POLs)

  • Showcase student work within the community

  • Scaffold instructional activities that facilitate engaging and appropriate learning opportunities

  • Differentiate instruction based on feedback, needs, and learning levels

  • Provide opportunities for student engagement through student voice and choice

  • Create relevant and authentic learning experiences

  • Implement backward design to align all lessons, activities, and assessments

  • Design formal and informal assessments that measure student progress

  • Work collaboratively and professionally with coworkers and community contacts

Internship Coordinators:

  • Cultivate and manage internship partnerships — build relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, agencies, and schools to source and secure high-quality, career-aligned internship opportunities for students.

  • Support student success from onboarding to wrap-up — guide students through applications, resume prep, interview coaching, orientation, and professional-development workshop.

  • Oversee internship placements and performance monitoring — conduct regular check‑ins, log hours/timecards, perform site‑visits, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with mentors and parents.

  • Maintain program administration and data-driven evaluation — manage application logistics, maintain accurate records, track student progress, prepare reports, and recommend improvements.

  • Collaborate with school stakeholders & promote the program — partner with counselors, faculty, and parents; host info sessions/career fairs; and act as the school–workplace liaison.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary commensurate with experience: $60,000-$90,000 / year

  • Participation in the Colorado PERA retirement program

  • 100% funding of individual medical benefits (and 25% of the cost of dependents)

  • Vision, dental, and life insurance plans available for purchase

  • Approximately four weeks of summer vacation and four weeks of school holidays and vacation

Job requirements

Qualifications (Required):

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree

  • Applicants without a teaching credential will need to be able to meet federal ESSA requirements.

  • Background Check (Fingerprint) Clearance

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Advanced degree in your field or a related field

  • 1+ year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or coach

  • Experience with teaching Humanities (English and/or Social Studies)
