Job Description - Independent Living Intern (Micro) Fall 2026


SUMMARY: The Independent Living (IL) Intern will work under the supervision of the Independent Living and Transitional Living Supervisor/Field Supervisor to provide clinical care and therapeutic services to adolescents and young adults within the Independent Living Program.  The internship will focus on the participation and direct provision of client assessment, individualized treatment planning, individualized and group therapeutic services, client outreach and resource coordination activities necessary to provide clients within the program the support to achieve their goals and promote self-sufficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  1. Participate in client assessment, treatment planning, care coordination and active case management as assigned.
  2. Provide Therapeutic Behavioral Services to clients in the Independent Living Program.
  3. Direct all necessary care coordination with clients and families.
  4. Engage and participate in individual and group therapy sessions as well as all related treatment planning activities.
  5. Other clinical services and administrative assignments necessary to the enrichment of the internship environment.
  6. Participate in weekly supervision with the assigned supervisor and any other related trainings or program meetings.

OTHER DUTIES:
  1. Maintain awareness of industry trends and professional knowledge by attending agency training, maintaining continuing education standards and reviewing professional publications.
  2. Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training as required
  3. Maintain trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards
  4. Maintain necessary documentation and oversight of client clinical record
  5. Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment.  All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material.
  6. Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures.
  7. Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Must be actively enrolled in a Master’s-level program in Social Work or Counseling.
  • Licensure: Valid Ohio, SWT, CT, or QMHS preferred.
  • Skills: 
    • Ability to work with clients professionally, in a community based setting.
    • Core Expertise: Possesses skill, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential duties of their role; keeps knowledge up to date.
    • Cultural Competency: Demonstrates awareness, sensitivity and skills in working professionally with diverse individuals, groups and communities who represent various cultural and personal background and characteristics.
    • Interpersonal Communication: Communicates clearly using verbal, nonverbal, and written skills in a professional context; demonstrates clear understanding and use of professional language.
    • Professional & Ethical Conduct: Adheres to professional values such as honesty, personal responsibility, and accountability; applies ethical concepts within scope of work and adheres to Agency policies and procedures.
    • Collaboration & Teamwork: Functions effectively as a member of a professional team that includes employees, clients and family members.
    • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Recognizes problems and responds appropriately; gathers information and sorts through it to identify and address root cause issues; makes timely decisions.
