Intern Corporate Environmental and Sustainability (EHS)

Become a part of our diverse culture of learning, development, and mentorship as an Intern – Corporate Environmental and Sustainability (EHS) in Summer 2027. 

Your education is just the beginning – you’ll become an active member of our Corporate Environmental and Sustainability (EHS&S) team, reporting to the Director, Corporate Environmental located in Pittsburgh, PA. During our 12-week internship program, you’ll tackle real-world challenges through impactful assignments, and work alongside our industry changemakers. 

The Intern – Corporate Environmental and Sustainability (EHS) will assist corporate environmental compliance and sustainability strategists support manufacturing operations in driving improvements in waste, water, air toxics, climate resiliency and biodiversity performance through analyzing data, identifying potential solutions, and sharing best practices.

Intern Impact Project: Potential project areas for this role could focus on: identifying and supporting zero waste/circular economy opportunities for residual material streams from our production sites; organizing our environmental SharePoint site; tracking and streamlining customer sustainability- related requests; supporting an environmental performance recognition program; benchmarking research on environmental improvement topics; helping prepare for our first EU CSRD statement, or calculating global water loading. The process, solutions, and financial business case for the selected primary project will be documented and presented to management at the close of the 12-week program.

• Benchmark with top performing industrial peers and learn from their approaches

• Share best practices from across Howmet or other industries

• Find outlets for materials previously disposed of as waste

• Help organize data, define data management needs, and address daily corporate environmental tasks

• Inspire manufacturing staff, by proving the business case, and teaching what you’ve learned

• Inspire manufacturing staff, by proving the business case, and teaching what you’ve learned

Your Education, Skills, and Experience:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program with a major in Environmental Management, EHS, Sustainable Business, or Engineering with an expected graduation date in Fall 2027 or Spring 2028

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent

• Demonstrated internship, work, or research participation experience

• Strong data analysis skills, internet research savviness, and business case development skills.

• Involved with at least 1 extracurricular activity (inclusive of campus organizations, sports, or volunteerism)

• Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s degree program

• Previous industrial experience 

• Interest in pursuing a career in sustainability or environmental management

• A driving passion to fix difficult challenges and persuade diverse populations

A relocation stipend in the amount of $3,600 will be provided to students located 50+ miles from the physical location of the internship.
