The CPS Energy Internship Program is designed to meet the industry’s rapidly changing workforce needs by providing college students an opportunity to be paired with a mentor to acquire meaningful hands-on experiences that expands their understanding of the industry and exposes them to essential skills they must acquire or develop to succeed.
The Federal and State Relations team is seeking an intern. The intern’s responsibilities will primarily involve assisting the team in activities related to preparing our state legislative agenda and executing to it during the 90th Regular Legislative Session in 2027. The intern will gain knowledge of and experience in CPS Energy’s major initiatives and public policy priorities, as well as the legislative process. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in written and verbal communication, time management, and organization.

The intern will assist the Federal & State Relations Team in handling the following tasks and responsibilities
A college student currently enrolled in Government, Political Science, Communications, or related fields
Reside in the greater Austin Metropolitan area
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment, coordinating with other areas to achieve goals and objectives
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
High-level of discretion and ability to handle information that is sensitive or confidential
Demonstrated leadership potential
Self-motivated and results-oriented
Effective networking skills
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic, mail and scheduling.
Strong written and communication skills
Demonstrate an interest in a career applicable to the public policy and/or energy utility industry.
A minimum GPA of 3.0
Attend all activities sponsored by CPS Energy during the fall semester
Pass a drug test and background screen prior to employment with CPS Energy
