Internship - New Product Innovation

## What you\u2019ll do:\n\nAs the NPI Intern you will support current New Product Introduction projects, in an engineering design, test sample preparation, and design review preparation role. This is a role that will provide the opportunity to work cross-functionally with other business areas including Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance and Supply Chain. It will require you to have ambition, drive, strong leadership, and solid engineering fundamentals, with confidence and enthusiasm in the product design and cost arenas. A highly entrepreneurial sense of urgency along with a passion for the industry is desirable. A strong drive to grow both personally and professionally is ideal for this role. The position will allow you to demonstrate your ability to drive innovation from ideation through Six Sigma processes, identification of product adjacencies, identification and execution of time savings through assembly optimization. The successful candidate will be a key resource for the NPI Engineering team in helping to innovate our PD\u0026C product lines, supports systems, enclosures, and data and communications solutions for the next generation of hazardous and industrial products.\n\nEssential Functions:\n\n\u2022 Work in a cross-functional/multi-disciplinary team, making technology/engineering decisions for project on time execution \n\u2022 Support conceptual design, and complete system/component modeling to meet specific requirements \n\u2022 Create CAD drawings, 3D models, assemblies, etc. \n\u2022 Support test plan development, including for 3rd party certifications, sample preparation, and data summary reports \n\u2022 Ensure deployment of standard engineering practices, assessing test results, and root cause analysis through test findings/failures \n\u2022 Prepare Design proposals and documentation required to define and control products \n\u2022 Participate in design reviews, both customer and internal as required\n\n## Qualifications:\n\nRequired (Basic) Qualifications: \n\u2022 Actively enrolled in a bachelor\u2019s degree program in engineering with a major in mechanical, electrical, industrial, industrial \u0026 systems, aerospace or aeronautical engineering or applied engineering sciences from an accredited institution \n\u2022 Minimum overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher (please do not round) \n\u2022 Currently located within 50-mile radius of Syracuse, NY with housing available through summer break \n\u2022 Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position. This means that Eaton will not support any CPT, OPT, or STEM OPT plans, F-1 to H-1B, H-1B cap registration, O-1, E-3, TN status, I-485 job portability, etc.\n\nPreferred Qualifications: \n\u2022 Completion of freshman year by the start of the internship \n\u2022 Prior internship or co-op experience \n\u2022 Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills \n\u2022 Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community \n\u2022 Self-motivated and a strong desire to achieve results \n\u2022 Knowledge of SAP or similar MRP software\n\n## Skills:\n\nPosition Success Criteria: \n\u2022 Transportation to and from the worksite is the responsibility of the co-op \n\u2022 Must have strong communication skills including verbal and written (E-Mail) \n\u2022 Must have strong computer knowledge; Microsoft Applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) \n\u2022 Mechanical engineering, solid modeling, and product design experience \n\u2022 Assumes accountability for tasks assigned \n\u2022 Effectively communicates across the project team \n\u2022 Assist with 3rd party certifications \n\u2022 Develop and test prototypes for new component ideas \n\u2022 Hands on testing of products, design validation, detail design, and drawing review \n\u2022 The internship culminates with a formal presentation where students showcase their success stories to leaders of the organization and receive feedback on their performance\n
