IT Intern (10-40 hours/week during school year) (Onsite in Grand Rapids, MI)
DornerWorks, located in Grand Rapids, is seeking a motivated IT Intern to join our Information Technology department. This role offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience across key areas of IT, including cybersecurity, systems management, networking, and compliance.
What you will be doing:
- Assisting internal users with technology-related issues.
- Conducting research to diagnose, explain, and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Communicating timely updates to users impacted by technical problems and following up with a post-resolution to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Setting up workstations and onboarding procedures for new users, ensuring smooth user experience.
- Supporting implementations and compliance efforts aligned with NIST 800-171r2 standards, contributing to Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) initiatives.
- Assisting with Microsoft Azure GCCH implementations and support, gaining exposure to advanced cloud-based IT environments.
- Utilizing tracking software to analyze user systems and present actionable recommendations for improvements.
- Ensuring prompt and effective response times to user requests, while coordinating referrals to technical or service personnel as needed.
- Collaborating on system administration projects alongside the IT department to optimize organizational operations.
What we need from you:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Basic knowledge of Windows and Linux desktop operating systems.
- Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting software and hardware needs.
- Familiarity with desktop networking, including wired and wireless systems.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical personnel.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Ability to independently follow through on assignments and complete tasks/projects with minimal supervision.
- Regularly required to stand or sit, with ability to move equipment as needed.
- Ability to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during the school year.
- Unrestricted right to work in the US without requiring sponsorship.
- Ability to operate a nerf gun and have some fun!
