Job Description - IT Intern












Drake is seeking a motivated IT Intern to join our team for Summer 2027. The IT Intern will gain hands on experience supporting the company’s technology systems, equipment, software, and employees across office and field operations.


The intern will work alongside IT professionals to assist with technical support, hardware and software setup, troubleshooting, cybersecurity practices, and IT asset management. This position is ideal for a dependable, organized student who enjoys technology, problem solving, and helping others.


Key Responsibilities



  • Shadow IT professionals to learn about daily technology operations and user support.

  • Assist employees with basic computer, software, printer, email, and connectivity issues.

  • Help set up and configure computers, monitors, phones, tablets, and other technology equipment.

  • Assist with installing approved software, updates, and security patches.

  • Support new-hire onboarding by preparing equipment and setting up approved system access.

  • Assist with collecting equipment and removing access during employee offboarding.

  • Help maintain accurate records of computers, tablets, phones, licenses, and other IT assets.

  • Assist with troubleshooting network, internet, and device connectivity issues.

  • Create and update technical instructions and IT documentation.

  • Help organize IT equipment, cables, supplies, and storage areas.

  • Learn and follow company cybersecurity, data privacy, and acceptable-use policies.

  • Escalate technical and security concerns to the appropriate IT team member.

  • Communicate professionally with employees, vendors, and other departments.

  • Travel to company offices, jobsites, or facilities as needed.

  • Participate in company training, activities, and internship assignments.

  • Perform other technical, administrative, and operational duties as assigned.


Qualifications



  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an information technology, computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or related program preferred.

  • Previous technical support or IT experience is helpful but not required.

  • Basic knowledge of computers, software, hardware, and mobile devices.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 is preferred.

  • Strong interest in technology and problem-solving.

  • Dependable, punctual, organized, and willing to learn.

  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle company information responsibly.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required.

  • Ability to travel to assigned company locations.


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move computers, monitors, printers, and other IT equipment.

  • Ability to work in office, shop, facility, and active jobsite environments.

  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment when visiting jobsites or operational areas.
