Job Description - J1 Program Participant Food & Beverage

Compensation Amount:

17.13 USD HourlyClean all dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans both by hand and automated machine. Assist Cooks and Chefs by preparing ingredients, keeping the kitchen clean and orderly, and by performing some simple prep and cooking functions as assigned according to the menu and recipes. This position reports to the Executive Chef.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Wash all dishes, utensils, trays, and cooking supplies using proper sanitation procedures. 

  • Maintain the kitchen, serving, and dining areas in clean and orderly condition by wiping counters and equipment and organizing shelves in order to maintain a sanitary workstation and to meet mandated health compliance requirements. 

  • Clean floor area of any spillage of water, detergent and/or food stuffs per safety and sanitation guidelines. 

  • Fill condiments, utensils, and other supplies with stock as needed. 

  • Maintain awareness of safety issues and report them immediately to your manager. 

  • Pull trash from trash receptacles.  Replace trash bags as needed. 

  • Keep all trash cans double-lined and in sanitary condition. 

  • Loading and unloading of inventory from trucks.  Stocking storeroom.  

  • Prepare and cook food items according to recipes, daily menus, and supervisor instructions. 

  • Take temperatures at regular intervals and maintain foods in sufficient quantities while minimizing production waste. 

  • Assist in maintaining kitchen sanitation and equipment cleaning schedule. 

  • Adhere to food safety guidelines including ServSafe and HACCP. 

  • Attend and participate in safety meetings. 

  • Performs such other related duties as directed or . 

 

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE 

  • Partial High School; High School Diploma/G.E.D. equivalent preferred 

  • Strong sanitation habits and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to recognize when a problem has occurred and report it to management 

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment. 

  • Lift, carry, and push up to 15 lbs. regularly, 20-30 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. 

  • Able to stand for extended periods and climb steps regularly carrying heavy loads. 

  • Frequent immersion of hands in water. 

  • Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of co-workers and the ability to speak clearly to be understood by same in English. 

  • Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees in fast paced kitchen. 

  • Withstand temperature extremes in freezer, refrigerator walk-in and grill areas.  

  • Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties. 

 

EQUIPMENT USED 

  • Commercial dishwashing equipment and cleaning supplies.  

  • General custodial equipment including mop, broom, variety of cleaning chemicals and supplies 

  • Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used: goggles and gloves
