Job Description - Knight Cancer Group Administrative Fellow






Department Overview






We're driven by a single mission: to end cancer as we know it. We're a team of hundreds of doctors, nurses, scientists and other professionals who have earned a national reputation for excellence. Every year, we treat about 6,000 patients and conduct about 1,400 research projects, including more than 400 clinical trials. Our research has led to groundbreaking advances in targeted therapy, immunotherapy, surgery and other ways to fight cancer. We're also developing new ways to find cancer early, when it's easier to treat. We're working to free the world from the burden of cancer, one patient at a time.

 

Under the direction of the Knight Cancer Group Chief Operating Officer (CEO), the Administrative Fellow will participate in high-level projects, management decision-making process, and strategy development. Through these experiences, the fellow will have the opportunity to acquire and refine important managerial competencies, including analytical, communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills. As a result, the fellow will have ongoing interaction with the entire administrative team involving a broad range of operational and strategic issues.

 

Over the 12-month period, the fellow will lead and support high-impact projects aligned with OHSU Knight Cancer Group’s fiscal year priorities and strategic goals. The fellowship is designed around a portfolio of projects that span key departments across OHSU Knight Cancer Group and OHSU Hospital and Clinics. These projects will be identified in collaboration with executive leadership, including the CEO and other Executive Leaders, to address organizational needs and strategic initiatives. Each project will be guided by administrative sponsors who will provide mentorship and performance feedback focused on core competencies critical to healthcare leadership. This flexible, project-based structure allows the fellow to gain cross-functional experience, contribute meaningfully to institutional objectives, and tailor their learning to their professional development goals.









Function/Duties of Position






  • Contribute to the work of administrate units across OHSU Healthcare
  • Build a broad range of healthcare management, administrative and leadership skills.
  • Seek ways to continuously improve processes and outcomes.
  • Enhance professional development though participation in a variety of activities to promote growth
  • Understand health care reform and its importance to strategic planning and execution.








Required Qualifications






  • Recently completed a MHA/MBA/MHSA/MPH/MS from an accredited program.
  • Desire to be challenged at a high level.
  • Flexibility and ability to deal effectively with ambiguity.
  • Service and team-oriented.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • High level of energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
  • Interest in the management and operation of an academic medical center








Preferred Qualifications






  • Accreditation from Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) or Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).








Additional Details






  • Work will be completed remotely, in office, and in hospital/clinic environment. Schedule may vary depending on assigned rotations. May require work during evenings or on weekends. Shares rotating responsibility as Administrator on Call for the Health System. (Mon – Fri).
  • Hearing and Speaking: For in-person and telephone conversations.
  • Standing: As required to make presentations or perform other job tasks.
  • Sitting: chair or stool continuous up to 8 hours per day able to intermittently move about.
  • Changing Position: Intermittently, as needed from sitting to standing to walking, etc.
  • Walking: Intermittently 2 – 4 hours per day on concrete, vinyl and carpeting.
  • Carrying: Up to 25 pounds (supplies, equipment, books, papers, etc.) for intermittent period and distances.
  • Lifting: Up to 25 pounds (patients, equipment, supplies, books, etc.) Intermittent throughout the day.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Up to 25 pounds, intermittent, throughout the day.
  • Bending: From the waist and knees, frequently throughout the day.
  • Reaching/Handling: Fine manipulation, repetitive, gross motor requiring reasonable range of motion in upper extremities, including overhead reaching.
  • Twisting: Reasonable range of motion required, intermittent periods, throughout the day.
  • Climbing: Staircase, intermittently throughout the day.
  • Crawling: Infrequent but possible on vinyl, carpet surface to retrieve or attend to articles that require attention.
