Laboratory Research Assistant

The laboratory research assistant will assist the Shoals Marine Lab with research projects. This position will report to SML Associate Director and will work independently on tasks assigned which support Shoals Marine Lab research projects being done with fish otoliths.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Review and validate field and laboratory protocols for analysis of fish otoliths

• Taxonomic identification of fish otoliths using microscopy

• Take morphological measurements of otoliths

• Take photographs of otoliths

• Maintain and manage a database of work

• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

• Undergraduate student in good academic standing

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Able to identify fish otoliths to species

• Familiarity with Gulf of Maine fish community

• Experience with microscopy

Compensation Pay Range:

$15/hour
