Job Description - Landscape Design Intern

Olson Kundig is a design practice founded on the ideas that buildings can serve as a bridge between nature, culture and people, and that inspiring surroundings have a positive effect on people’s lives. The firm’s work can be found across the globe, with projects as wide-ranging as huts to high rises, homes—often for art collectors—to academic, cultural and civic projects, museums and exhibition design, places of worship, creative production, urban design, and interior design.

Currently, we are seeking a Landscape Design Intern to join and support our Landscape and Planning team and contribute to the overall excellence of work coming from Olson Kundig. This internship can begin in May or June at approximately 40 hours per week and will be 12 - 14 weeks in duration.

As a Landscape Design Intern, you will support the Landscape and Planning team across all phases of projects—from concept and schematic design through to design development and construction documentation. Tasks may include producing presentation and working drawings using tools such as Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, model making, and hand sketching.

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to real projects in a dynamic, fast-paced studio environment. Interns will apply the skills gained through academic training while learning directly from experienced professionals. It’s a hands-on, immersive experience that builds both technical abilities and an understanding of professional design practice at an award-winning interdisciplinary firm.

Primary Responsibilities:

    • Utilize Rhino for 3D modeling and design iteration, particularly in conceptual and schematic phases.
    • Support Grasshopper or GIS mapping and analysis to inform site context and planning strategies/environmental data overlays.
  • Technical Support:
    • Assist in preparing site plans, planting plans, and illustrative diagrams using Revit, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite.
    • Conduct research on materials, plant palettes, and precedent imagery to support design intent.
    • Prepare and format presentation materials in InDesign and Photoshop, including downloading and editing assets from online sources.
    • Support administrative tasks such as organizing project files, updating documentation, standards/templates, and coordinating deliverables.
  • Additional duties and projects:
    • As assigned or necessary.
Education/Skills/Experience:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Planning.
  • Beginner to proficient in Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Revit, and Windows-based applications
  • Strong conceptual design, communication, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with landscape materials and planting design
  • Knowledge of Grasshopper, GIS software and spatial analysis a plus
What you will gain:
  • Experience working in a dynamic, creative environment.
  • Gaining software experience with Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Revit, and Windows-based applications.
  • Mentorship from experienced professionals.
