Archives Library Work Study students support the operation of the Flagler College Archives and the organization, preservation, digitization, and accessibility of materials in the College Archives and Archives Special Collections. This position preserves and widens access to the College's unique historical assets and serves as pre-professional training for students entering the information professions.






This position carries real responsibility and builds a durable, transferable skill set. Students are trusted with consequential tasks and leave with professional experience that translates directly to their careers.  



  • Hands-on archival skills: digitization, metadata creation, and finding-aid development to professional standards.  

  • Attention to detail and careful handling of unique, fragile, and irreplaceable materials.  

  • Research, historical interpretation, and clear written communication.  

  • Project ownership and accountability that come from being trusted with consequential, specialized work. 




Responsibilities


RESPONSIBILITIES: 



  • Process, organize, digitize, and preserve archival materials under the direction of the Archives Specialist.  

  • Scan archival photographs, documents, and other materials and prepare digital files for the Flagler College Digital Archives, preserving fragile originals while widening access.  

  • Create and enter descriptive metadata in accordance with established guidelines.  

  • Assist with archival research and reference projects as assigned.  

  • Create and maintain finding aids, inventories, and other collection documentation.  

  • Help maintain archival collections and storage areas in organized, orderly condition.  

  • Perform other library-related duties as required by the Archives Specialist or Director of Library Services.  




Additional Responsibilities (selected by the student based on interest)



  • Assist with developing digital exhibits featuring Archives and Special Collections materials.  

  • Assist with exhibit research, content development, and interpretation.  

  • Assist with outreach activities and events featuring archival and Special Collections materials.  

  • Participate in specialized archival projects based on collection needs and the student's interests.  

  • Represent the Library and Archives during campus programming and presentations as needed, acting as an ambassador for the Library and the College. 









    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 



    • Ability to complete tasks in a detailed, orderly fashion, maintain an agreed-upon schedule, and be professional in the Library.  

    • Detail-oriented and organized, able to follow established procedures when handling archival materials.  

    • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn archival digitization and digital-collection systems.  




    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 



    • Prior experience with digital photography, scanning, image editing, historical research, libraries, archives, or museums is preferred but not required.  

    • Interest in history, archives, museums, preservation, digital humanities, or related fields is encouraged.  




    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:   



    • Periodic lifting and carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.  

    • Periodic pulling, pushing, reaching overhead, kneeling, stooping, and bending at the waist.  




    Available Hours 



    • Monday–Tuesday, 8:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m.; Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.– 1:00 p.m.  

    • Scheduled within the 19-hour weekly cap.
