Summary:
The American University’s School of International Service (SIS) is seeking a responsible and proactive undergraduate or graduate student to join our team as a Logistics and Communications Assistant for the Community of Scholars (CoS) pre-college program. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys planning, supporting high-impact events, and ensuring smooth operations in a fast-paced academic environment.
The assistant will support an internationally diverse cohort of high school students in an intensive, two-week academic program, providing hands-on logistical support for faculty, students, families, and staff. Communications and social media responsibilities will support the program’s day-to-day operations and student experience.
The assistant will report directly to the Director and receive daily guidance and task assignments.
Essential Functions:
1.) Logistics and Program Support (Primary Focus)
Support CoS faculty with classroom logistics and material needs.
Coordinate arrangements for internal and external program events (e.g., speaker visits, site tours).
Provide support to resident assistants during student activities and evening events.
Assist with communications to students and families leading up to and during the program.
Help with move-in, orientation, and closing events.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure program success.
2.) Communications and Social Media
Assist in managing content for the program’s official Instagram and Facebook pages.
Provide real-time social media updates during the on-campus program (e.g., capturing photos/videos).
Respond to routine inquiries via social media and program email using pre-approved guidance.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
15 - 27 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$18.40 - $22.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Experience supporting events or managing logistics is a plus.
Comfortable engaging with students, faculty, families, and external partners.
Familiarity with Instagram and Facebook (content creation experience is helpful but not required).
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Previous work with a similar program, student group, or organization.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Must be available in person during the on-campus program from July 6 - 17.
Primary focus will be on daily program logistics, event coordination, and faculty support.
