Summary of Position:

A Maintenance Apprenticeship is intended for individuals who sense a calling to vocational ministry and seek to develop maintenance skills while gaining the experience necessary to grow in their gifts. The Maintenance Apprentice serves under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager and the Facilities Director, who together provide guidance, feedback, and support to assist in discerning future maintenance roles.

The Maintenance Apprentice assists the Maintenance Manager with a variety of repair and maintenance tasks, developing skills in carpentry, painting, drywall, minor plumbing, and basic electrical work under supervision. Responsibilities also include providing customer service to ticket requestors and maintaining clean and organized work sites.

Qualities Needed: 

• Willingness to Learn: The core of an apprenticeship is on-the-job training, so a proactive and teachable attitude is essential


• Basic Mechanical Aptitude: A basic understanding of how things work and how to use common hand and power tools 


• Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, good communication, and reliability are highly valued for ticket requestor interaction and quality work


• Physical Stamina: The work often involves lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, bending, and reaching, so a certain level of physical fitness is required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Shadowing experienced workers, learning safety protocols, and gaining practical experience through direct work


• Performing tasks like drywall repair, painting, furniture assembly, landscaping, basic carpentry, basic plumbing, minor electrical repairs, and equipment/decor installation


• Keeping work sites clean and organized, and ensuring tools are properly maintained


• Communicating verbally and electronically via a ticketing system for clarity on work requirements, information documentation, and ticket progress status


• Purchasing materials and supplies & delivering them to campus locations


• Creating and updating maintenance lists, campus standards and facilities equipment details
