Job Title: Marketing and Graphic Design Internship

Department: Banking

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function

Midwest Heritage, A Hy-Vee Company, has an opening for a marketing and graphic design intern, located in West Des Moines. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to grow their portfolio and obtain creative experience working alongside a fast-paced marketing department. Our summer internship program provides qualified candidates the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally at one of the top full-service financial intuitions based in Iowa.

Interns will be exposed to the development and execution of marketing plans, budgets and schedules, and will work with a team to develop strategies and materials for marketing campaigns. Candidates will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other interns on an enterprise-wide project over the summer.

Reporting Relations

Accountable and Reports to: Marketing Director

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in designing materials for marketing campaigns, social media, and other creative projects as needed.

  • Help manage and track creative projects and deadlines.

  • Write social media posts and blogs.

  • Help plan, communicate and manage marketing requirements for departmental projects and promotions.

  • Assist in coordinating summer events.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

  • Commitment to the Midwest Heritage mission and willingness to promote the values of the organization.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Proficient computer skills. Microsoft Office preferred (Outlook, Power Point, Excel and Word.)

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate to and interact with people in a friendly, professional manner.

  • Strong detail orientation including the ability to review forms for accuracy and completeness.

  • Proficiency with design programs: Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

  • Possess strong project management, attention to detail and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written.

  • Ability to work 36-40 hours per week, for a minimum of 10 weeks starting in May.

Education and Experience:

  • Junior standing minimum, majoring in graphic design, marketing, advertising, or communications.

  • Relevant coursework required.

  • Previous experience with marketing and graphic design preferred.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position is classified sedentary/light and requires the ability to sit for long periods of time.

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near range with or without correction.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: sitting for long periods, talking (in person and by telephone), hearing and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

  • The duties of this position are normally performed in a general office setting. This is a fast paced work environment.

  • There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Computer (PC with Microsoft Office programs), telephone, calculator, telephone, copier, fax, and printer.

Contacts:

This position works with Midwest Heritage employees, bank customers, Hy-Vee employees, vendors and outside agents doing direct business with Midwest Heritage.

Confidentiality:

This position has the responsibility to protect the privacy and confidentiality of customers, employees and bank/insurance/financial information at all times.
