Job Description - Master in Social Worker- Intern


Summary/Purpose of the Position 


Global Kids educates, activates, and inspires young people from underserved communities to take action on critical issues facing our world. We seek a dynamic licensed therapist (LCSW/LMSW) to work on-site at our community school program. The therapist will work with high school students with social/emotional needs or at risk of dropping out due to inconsistent attendance or other challenges. The therapist will collaborate with other GK staff to deliver multi-faceted youth development and wellness programs grounded in social justice, global education, and human rights



Responsibilities include: 


• Provide high-quality assessment on a wide range of presenting difficulties. 


• Conduct individual and group therapeutic services to high school students from culturally diverse backgrounds. 


• Develop a mindfulness curriculum alongside the delivery of therapeutic group programs, e.g., Anger management, stress management, etc., at the school’s Wellness Room. 


• Collaborate with the school’s mental health providers/teaching staff to promote multidisciplinary care. 


• Assist with attendance outreach services, including attendance monitoring/data review, home visits, family conferences, and phone call check-ins. 


• Train non-social work/therapist staff in trauma-informed practices, case management, and case note strategies 


• Support implementation of GK’s experiential global education workshops and activities, academic enrichment programs, afterschool leadership groups, and lunch clubs. 


• Conduct special training for youth and educators on occasion. 


• Implement student outreach, recruitment, and retention strategies throughout the year. 


• Help to support the partner school’s goals and functions. 


• Build and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders such as students, families, school personnel, policymakers, and other community members. 


• Occasional evenings, weekends, and overnights with long-distance travel required (annual overnight or multi-night youth retreat, college trips, GK events). 


• Collect, input, and maintain necessary documentation/case files, program data entry, and records, and provide periodic progress reports.

• Complete administrative tasks related to maintaining assigned GK equipment, fiscal procedures (fund requests and expense reports), and other tasks. 



Qualifications: 


• Must be an LCSW or LMSW 


• SIFI certification is a plus 


• Social work experience with students in transitional housing, LGBTQ, students with emotional challenges, learning disabilities, and/or immigrant students. 


• Experience with DOE SAPIS program or substance abuse prevention and intervention. 


• Skilled in the delivery of mindfulness-based therapies (MCBT, DBT, or ACT). 


• Substantial child/lifespan development mental health experience. 


• Confident in risk assessment and crisis counseling skills. 


• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with the GK staff team and the school’s mental health professionals. 


• Strong understanding of NYC social service and community resources for youth and families. 


• Commitment to and understanding of working in culturally diverse settings and using antiracist pedagogical practices 


• Experience using interactive, experiential learning strategies, conflict resolution skills, and youth development/leadership strategies. 


• Experience working in or closely with NYC public schools is a plus. 


• Strong work ethic, initiative, creativity, willingness to learn, and ability to manage multiple tasks independently. 


• Strong communication, writing, administrative, organizational, and technology skills (Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Zoom). 


• International experience a plus 


• Fluency in other languages is a plus (particularly Bengali or other South Asian languages and dialects) 


• Commitment to GK mission 



COVID Vaccine Requirement: Per our contract and to maintain the safety of all staff and students, full COVID vaccination is required. Proof of vaccine status must be provided before employment.
