Job Description - Mayor's Summer Jobs Program


About the Role:

The Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program is a career readiness opportunity for Somerville youth that encourages career exploration, workplace and interpersonal skill development, and connection with community and peers.

There are several workplace opportunities available in the Parks and Recreation Department, Somerville Public Schools, within the private sector, and throughout all our City government departments. Schedules vary based on placement, but all youth who are hired can expect to work a maximum of 20 hours per week for approximately six weeks. Starting July 6th and ending August 14th.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility is limited to currently enrolled students
  • Must live or attend school in Somerville
  • Applicants must be at least 14 years of age by May 4th, 2026
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States as U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • One Adult Reference (This should be an adult who knows you well and who is not related to you. Examples: Teacher, Guidance Counselor, Supervisor, Coach, etc.)

Hours & Pay:

  • Up to 20 hours per week (schedules vary based on placement)
    • *Note: certain programs that are 5 weeks or less may require over 20 hours per week
  • Current City of Somerville living wage of $18.85 per hour

Application Process:

  • All applications must be submitted by April 30th, 2026
  • Interviews will take place between Monday, May 4th through Friday, May 7th
  • First day of programming: July 6th, 2026.

Pre-Employment Requirements for All Employees:



  • MA Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) clearance

  • Completion of Conflict-of-Interest Law Education training for municipal employees
