What is Commercial Strategy?

Commercial Strategy encompasses several departments that have a strategic focus on revenue generation. Our analysts work cross-functionally, experiencing a full range of analytical projects involving quantitative and qualitative analysis. This includes work such as pricing and yield management, conducting customer analysis on our travelers to identify opportunities that will drive loyalty, or analyzing our sales channels to identify opportunities that improve performance. You are expected to conduct thorough analyses and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Typical work assignments include managing and/or consulting on strategic endeavors:



  • Develop, present and implement strategies to address marketplace competition, changes in customer preference and improvements in technology and marketing tools to improve American’s commercial performance

  • Build and manage forecast models to support key commercial initiatives

  • Translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations for executive stakeholders

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across Commercial, Finance, Operations and Customer Experience to ensure strategic alignment throughout the organization

Qualifications:


  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with leaders at all levels, to include senior executives.

  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills coupled with intellectual curiosity.

  • Ability to derive insight from data and form a solution used for strategic decision making.

  • Operate within a cross functional team environment and with all levels of management.

  • Showcase comfortability with new technology and business software.

  • 2-5 years full-time experience in business, technical or related fields.

  • Enrollment in an accredited MBA program and completion of full year of course work is required.

  • AAdvantage & Co-Brand: Shapes the strategic direction of the AAdvantage loyalty and co-brand programs, increasing customer engagement and acquisitions.  Responsible of structuring core AAdvantage program value proposition, driving engagement in the AAdvantage ecosystem, partnering with Citi to increase cobrand remuneration.

  • Cargo: Lead global strategy, revenue optimization, and sales execution for our cargo business, driving growth through data-driven planning, market insights, and cross-functional collaboration

  • Commercial Planning: Centralized strategic, analysis and planning team that sits at the intersection of several groups across the Commercial organization. Commercial Planning drives strategic alignment across the entire organization by developing key forecasts used to guide commercial decision making and by leading performance monitoring and tracking of top-priority enterprise initiatives that directly impact American’s top line revenue performance.

  • Global Sales: The Global Sales team at American Airlines drives top-line revenue and builds long-term partnerships across both business and leisure travel segments. Acting as a key link between American and its global partners, the team focuses on strategic B2B relationships with corporations and travel agencies, managing contract negotiations and delivering customized solutions to increase market share.
