Medical Laboratory Scientist Student - Laboratory

JOB SUMMARY
Upon training approval, and once signed procedures are completed, you will be assigned to the specific departments based on the needs of the laboratory, volumes, and workload. Your training will be “on the job” and all sections with high complexity testing will be a minimum three-month rotation. Self-study materials will be provided to meet the CLIA/CMS training recommended guidelines for non-traditional "Medical Laboratory Scientist" students. Once your training is completed, you will be primarily responsible for performing laboratory tests in assigned laboratory sections under the direct supervision of the section supervisors.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological; OR Associates degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training as required by 42CFR493.1489(b). Certification with ASCP, AMT, or one of the national registering bodies is preferred.
Must be able to communicate and effectively exchange information with laboratory staff, nursing staff, physicians, physician office staff, patients, patient’s families, other customers, and guests.
Requires judgment including prioritizing tasks according to medical urgency, efficiency, and good guest relations skills.
Stroke education is required. Refer to Administrative Policy A-148 for specific education requirements.
