About the Role:
This position is responsible for supporting the Merchandising team through a variety of analytical, strategic, and operational projects while gaining hands-on exposure to the inner workings of a modern e-commerce retail organization. The Intern will contribute to meaningful business initiatives, including Swanson’s evolving category transformation efforts, while learning how merchandising strategy, customer insights, and product assortment decisions come together to drive growth.
Essential Responsibilities:
Support the Merchandising team in developing assortment strategies and competitive deep dives to identify assortment gaps, redundancies, and opportunities within key categories.
Analyze category performance, product attributes, and competitive benchmarks to help inform merchandising decisions and uncover potential areas for assortment improvement.
Gain exposure to key cross-functional partners and business processes including Purchasing, Planning, Pricing, Marketing, Operations, and Customer Service, and understand how these teams collaborate to bring products to market.
Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and cross-functional teams with a constant commitment to teamwork, customer service, and professionalism.
Contribute to a structured internship project aligned with merchandising priorities, culminating in a presentation to team leadership that highlights findings, recommendations, and key learnings.
Support the broader Merchandising team with special projects and day-to-day initiatives, which may include assortment reviews, product research, supplier analysis, or merchandising presentations.
Assist with projects supporting Swanson’s category transformation initiatives, which aim to evolve product categories, improve assortment clarity, and better align offerings with customer needs and market trends.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
Future interest in enrollment in an undergraduate course for Business, Merchandising, Buying, Marketing, or similar field.
Keen interest in product, merchandising, e-commerce and customer insights.
Strong analytical skills and basic foundation in retail math.
Motivated, self-starter with a strong work ethic.
Ability to collaborate with peers across multiple functions in a professional manner.
Creative and curious; flexible and can demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking.
Ability to write and verbally communicate clearly and concisely.
Familiarity with MS Office Suite – Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Student enrolled in or graduating from high school with intentions of enrolling in an undergraduate course for Business, Finance, Marketing or similar field. 0-2 years of office experience.
