Position Title: Mi CASA Art Education Intern (LA County Bloomberg Arts Internship Program)


Location: Little Tokyo Service Center office + Terasaki Budokan
Compensation: $27.81/ hourly rate
Hours: Temporary (8-weeks, 120 hours)



Background:
For over 45 years, Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC) has provided a safety net of social welfare and community development services to empower people and communities in need. LTSC provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the Japanese American community in the Southland, builds multi-family affordable housing projects to uplift low-income neighborhoods of color throughout Los Angeles, and promotes equitable development and cultural preservation in the Little Tokyo neighborhood.

Summary of Duties:
Working jointly with the Artist-in-Residence and the Director of Resident Services, the MiCASA Art Education Intern will play a key role in developing and implementing an arts-based activity curriculum for LTSC’s MiCASA summer program. The intern will assist in designing creative lesson plans that integrate visual and performing arts into youth programming, support the facilitation of workshops and activities that encourage self-expression, and collaborate with staff to adapt curriculum to meet the diverse needs of participants. In addition, the intern will contribute to program administration by preparing materials, coordinating schedules, and documenting activities, while engaging directly with youth to foster leadership, teamwork, and confidence through arts education.



Responsibilities Include:



  • Curriculum development for summer program participants

  • Facilitation of workshops with summer program participants

  • Support staff with preparing equipment and supplies required for programming

  • Engage with summer program participants and promote engagement

  • Interns will participate in regular meetings with their supervisor and have the option of attending agency-wide staff building and professional development events such as a guided walking tour of Little Tokyo.

  • Other duties as may be assigned by your supervisor



Qualifications, Experience, and Skills:



  • High School rising senior, preferred

  • Experience working with youth

  • Experience assisting with hands on arts workshops

  • Can-do attitude

  • Willingness to learn



Equivalent education or experience can be substituted for all minimum qualifications, except
when legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration, are required.
