Job Description - MSW Intern - Fall Semester





Description

Position Summary

The MSW Intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience working with youth, families, and community partners. During their time, this individual will gain knowledge and experience in creating community connections, building SEL programming, ensuring effective communication, practicing active listening and motivational interviewing, setting goals, building rapport, utilizing Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT) and strengths approach, training others on various behavioral health topics, small and/or large group facilitation, working independently and collaborating with a team, one-on-one counseling sessions through shadowing, supporting other team members with behavioral health questions, and utilizing a micro, macro, and mezzo lens to best meet the needs of Club youth.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

  • Must adhere to the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Integrate a social and emotional lens to provide impactful consultation, crisis intervention, grief support, and referral work.
  • Co-facilitate member counseling in individual and group settings
  • Co-Facilitate/Facilitate youth group sessions on topics including but not limited to anxiety, depression & suicide, LGBTQ, healthy relationships, grief, substance use, domestic violence, gang-related conflict, general stress, and bullying.
  • Provide families and youth with necessary community resources.
  • Integrates training and support regarding behavior management best practices for other Club staff as needed.
  • Participates in ongoing supervision with supervising LCSW.
  • Attend training as opportunities arise.
  • Provide mental health training to BGC staff
  • Assist with bi-weekly mental health publication, The Connection Chronicle, to BGC staff
  • Build rapport with club members and staff
  • Create SEL curriculum around mental health using DBT as the foundation
  • Assist with mental health crisis with Members including de-escalation and restorative justice practices

**Assist with other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Must be a current MSW student in good standing with a CSWE accredited college or university.
  • Interest in working in a youth development setting.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
  • Candidates must be able to pass a drug test that includes screening for marijuana, criminal and driving records investigations, and reference checks.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is strongly preferred.

Supervisory Expectations:

  • This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Independence of Action

  • Work is closely monitored by supervisor/manager; detailed instructions and procedures are generally provided.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is chaotic and loud.

Work Hours

Hours vary and are dependent on business needs. Long hours may be required or requested to meet the needs of clubs.

Work Week

Monday through Friday, hours may vary with the workload.

As needed to satisfy the requirements of the position

Salary Description

15.75/hour
