Essential Job Function:

  • Participate in the clinical evaluation and care of patients in a variety of patient care settings with sufficient frequency to achieve the competencies required by their discipline under the supervision of the supervising physician.
  • Residents may write orders and progress notes in patient charts, although attending physicians retain responsibility for the care of patients seen by residents.
  • Perform procedures, which are specified by each program director, under the direct supervision of the supervising physician.
  • Once the resident has performed the appropriate number of procedures to achieve competency, the program director will determine when the resident is eligible to be certified to perform the procedure without direct supervision.
  • Assume progressive responsibility for patient care activities according to resident's level of education, ability, and experience.
  • The program director, supervising physician and the teaching faculty will determine the resident's level of responsibility and autonomy.
  • Communicate effectively with their supervising physicians and care teams regarding the findings of their evaluation, physical examination, interpretation of diagnostic tests, and intended interventions on a continuous basis.
  • Participate fully in the educational and scholarly activities of the program.
  • Participate in appropriate institutional committees and councils whose actions affect their education and/or patient care including but not limited to quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
  • Develop a personal program of learning to foster continued professional growth with guidance from the teaching faculty.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures, including the licensure board rules of conduct and the regulations of any affiliated institution to which the resident may be assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education:

  • Required: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (Master’s or Doctoral) or an accredited Physician Assistants program Master's Degree Physician Assistant studies.


Experience:

  • Required: No experience as a licensed APP is required.


Licensure/Certification/Listing:

  • Required: Valid NC RN and Nurse Midwife or NP license OR NC PA license. Board Certified within 1 year of date of hire by either the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) for PA's OR the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the National Certification Corporation (NCC) for NP's OR the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) or The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol (NRP) Certification required for Neonatal Advanced Practice Providers IVC Certified within 90 days of employment for Behavioral Health Advance Practice Provider. Must possess and maintain a current, unrestricted DEA registration in accordance with federal and state regulations.
