Job Description:
Provide comprehensive, developmentally appropriate orthotic and/or prosthetic care to infants, toddlers, preschool, school-aged, adolescent and adult patients who require intervention.
Gain exposure to and demonstrate competency with a wide variety of orthotic and/or prosthetic systems, as required by the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE).
Interface with Scottish Rite team members (Certified Orthotist/Prosthetist, Physicians, Therapists, Nurses, etc.) in developing orthotic and/or prosthetic patient specific treatment objectives by utilizing sound patient evaluation techniques including, but not limited to, the following (as required); patient history, motor function and strength, range of motion, skin condition, sensory evaluation, gait analysis, and in general the patient’s developmental age and psychosocial status.
Care for and has contact with infants, toddlers, preschool, school-aged, adolescent patients with concomitant dealings with adult caretakers.
Take negative impressions or scans and modify positive plaster molds.
Fabricate orthoses and/or prostheses (plaster, plastic, and metal work, lamination, etc.) as required and communicate all measurements and material selection necessary for technical staff fabrication.
Fit orthoses and/or prostheses, evaluate their efficacy in meeting both the established objective and patient tolerance; provide follow-up assessments regarding appropriateness of fit and function.
Masters degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics is required.
Certificate in Orthotics or Prosthetics approved by the National Commission on Orthotics and Prosthetics Education (NCOPE) and/or the Committee for the Accreditation of Allied Healthcare Education Programs (CAAHEP) required.
Basic LIfe Support Certification required.
Must be licenced to practice as an orthotic and/or prosthetic resident student in the state of Texas by the Texas Board of Licensing and Registration (TDLR).
Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills

An Individual in this position will be required to list or carry weight in this group: Between 75-100 lbs

An Individual in this position will be exposed to: Inside environment, Bloodborne Pathogens, Loud noise, Chemical hazards, and Respiratory hazards
