Position Overview:

The Peer Advising Coaches (PACs) provide peer to peer support with navigating academic advising procedures, PAWS, course registration preparation, reviewing departmental websites, understanding TCNJ policies and procedures, and helping students prepare for their academic advising appointments. PACs also create social media content and video tutorials. PACs present workshops focused on PAWS to help students prepare for registration and support the overall functions of the First-Year Advising Support Center and the departments advising cohorts.

Responsibilities\:

FY-ASC Peer Advising Coaches act as a “front line” filter for surface-level questions to which the answers are accessible through the TCNJ website/PAWS, allowing the faculty/staff academic advisor to focus on more in-depth advising issues and career exploration with the student.

Peer Advising Coaches will support the departmental advising relationship by helping students prepare for faculty/staff advising appointments, thus increasing efficiency in time spent with students and overall productivity.

Learning Objectives\:

  • PACs will strengthen their peer support/mentoring skills through individual and group sessions

  • PACs will hone their workshop development and facilitation skills by creating engaging workshops for their peers

  • PACs will learn how to effectively communicate with their peers and collaborate on a team

Required Qualifications\:

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

  • Enthusiastic about supporting students by using strong active listening skills and empathy

  • Knowledgeable about campus resources, registration, PAWS, etc.

  • Ability and willingness to speak in front of large groups

  • Flexibility to work one weekend each semester during Lions Days and Accepted Students Day
