Physical Activity and Safety Intern

Internship Summary & Learning Objectives

We are seeking a motivated and creative intern to support physical activity and safety initiatives through outreach, campaign development, and community engagement. The intern will work closely with our program managers to create compelling content, coordinate with local partners, and assess the effectiveness of various initiatives. Projects will include developing an ad campaign encouraging seat belt use and overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a virtual bicycle commuter event.

There also may be opportunities to learn, participate and assist with the implementation of other community health programs and projects as needed and as available. 

This role is ideal for a student or recent graduate passionate about physical activity and safety, marketing, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, an ability to think creatively and innovate, and a willingness to challenge existing methods to drive engagement and program growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a public safety ad campaign promoting seat belt use.


• Plan, implement, and evaluate a virtual bicycle commuter event.


• Coordinate with local partners and stakeholders.


• Create and distribute compelling promotional materials.


• Manage ad placements and increase health and safety messaging.


• Analyze campaign and event performance to assess impact and opportunities for improvement.

While the bulk of the internship will be completed during the summer semester, a portion of the project will need to be completed through the month of September. This internship is typically scheduled for around 15-20 hours per week for 3 months. 

Qualifications/Requirements

• Must be a 3rd or 4th year undergraduate OR graduate student in public health, community health, health education, social work, family life or closely related program.


• Must have knowledge of public health education models, behavior change theories, and primary prevention techniques.


• Must be skilled in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, internet and email use.


• Must have good written, verbal, and public communication skills. Spanish speaking skills are a plus.


• Must be able to work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work well in team situations, meet deadlines, and be able to work independently on a day-to-day basis.


• Preference given to those with marketing knowledge, or understanding of Ad platforms (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.) 

Compensation

$500 upon completion (end of September)
