Job Description - Physical Therapist (DPT) Residency Program

Physical Therapist (DPT) –  Private Practice Residency Program | Mentorship + Housing
New Jersey Doctors of Physical Therapy (NJDPT)

Location: Riverdale, NJ | Position Type: Full-Time, W-2

We are hiring a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) for a 12-month residency-style position at New Jersey Doctors of Physical Therapy in Riverdale, NJ.

This role is designed for both new graduates and established clinicians seeking a structured and supported transition into private practice, with a reduced patient load, one-on-one mentorship, full benefits, and free on-site housing provided.

At NJDPT, we have spent over 25 years building a clinician-led private practice. In a landscape where many organizations are part of larger corporate systems, we have remained independently operated, allowing us to develop our own approach to patient care, mentorship, and long-term growth. This environment allows clinicians to learn not only how to treat, but how to build a successful practice, operated and sustained over time, including direct exposure to the clinical, operational, and strategic decisions that drive long-term practice success.

What Makes This Different

  • Reduced caseload: approximately 1 patient per hour (or less) for the first 3 months, progressing to a maximum of ~1.5 patients per hour
  • One-on-one mentorship with consistent clinical guidance and ongoing feedback
  • On-site housing and utilities provided at no cost
  • A structured environment that prioritizes growth and development, with gradual progression in responsibility
  • Direct exposure to a clinician-led practice model without corporate or external ownership influence
  • Opportunity to observe how clinical autonomy and decision-making are maintained within a private practice setting

Program Structure & Development

  • 12-month program with progressive clinical responsibility
  • Doctor Development Program (DDP), integrating clinical training with caseload management, plus development of leadership training skill sets.
  • Ongoing mentorship with direct access to experienced clinicians for guidance and case discussion
  • Weekly case reviews and collaborative clinical discussions
  • Designed to build confidence in clinical decision-making and patient management early in practice
  • Continuing education through MedBridge and in-person team CEU courses
  • Exposure to operations, systems, and day-to-day decision-making within a private practice
  • Introduction to how practices are scaled, managed, and sustained long-term
  • Industry-leading documentation systems to support efficiency and allow more time with patients
  • Flexible scheduling options, including the ability to design a 3-, 4-, or 5-day workweek

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $60,000
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits (valued at $8,000–$9,500)
  • On-site housing and utilities included
  • 4 weeks PTO
  • Retirement plan (Vanguard) with employer matching
  • Free financial counseling for debt reduction and long-term planning
  • Entertainment package with discounts for sports, theater, and travel

Commitment

  • 1-year commitment required

Growth Opportunity

This role is designed for individuals who want to build a strong clinical foundation while gaining exposure beyond patient care. You will gain direct exposure to how a private practice operates and grows, with potential to expand into a track focused on leadership and future practice ownership.

Ideal Candidate

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), new graduate or early career
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Looking for a structured environment to develop clinically
  • Motivated, coachable, and growth-oriented
  • Interested in understanding both the clinical and business sides of practice
