We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Co-op student to join our Drug Discovery team. This opportunity will allow the Co-op to gain valuable experience in assay development for small-molecule drug discovery, as well as learn about the stages of pre-clinical research. The Co-op will support the development and optimization of biochemical and cell-based assays, execute routine compound profiling, and work with the team during decision-making processes to nominate compounds and programs for advancement.

Responsibilities: 

• Develop and optimize biochemical binding assays (HTRF, FP, enzymatic activity assays) to profile compound affinity and specificity.


• Conduct mammalian tissue culture to maintain cell lines and run cell-based assays (reporter cell lines, Western blots and functional readouts in disease model lines,) to measure compound efficacy against targets of interest. 

• Draft and update protocols, develop assay SOPs, and maintain entries in our electronic lab notebook.


• Present results at team meetings and learn how results are used to drive company decisions. 

Collaborative Opportunities: 

The Co-op will work closely with FL107 team members, who are experts in protein degradation, assay development, medicinal chemistry, and preclinical research. This will allow the Co-op to learn how to develop assays for small-molecule drug discovery, gain an understanding of the preclinical drug discovery process, and gain exposure to operational practices of an early stage biotech company. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in starting a career in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals.

Required Skillset: What level of person we are looking for?

• Pursuing a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field. 


• Interest in learning about drug discovery and developing assays to measure behavior of small molecules.

• Demonstrated critical thinking and proactive problem-solving skills. 

• Experience with basic wet lab techniques (e.g., pipetting) is required. 

• Curiosity-driven with a strong desire to learn and ask questions. 

• Attention to details and strong organizational skills for careful documentation and tracking of experiments. 

Preferred Experience: 

• Experience working in a biochemistry or cell biology lab, with working knowledge of mammalian tissue culture, molecular biology, and handling proteins.


• Familiarity with SDS-PAGE and plate-based assays.

The pay range for this role is $25 - $35 per hour. This role is a short-term engagement that is not eligible for health and welfare benefits. Retirement benefits may be available after completing a set number of hours. Compensation and benefits information is based on FL107's good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future.
