TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  



  • Salary varies based on placement within the Non-Certified Compensation Schedule (pay range between $16,440 - $27,307.50), depending on [directly related] work experience and/or level of education.

  • Part-time employment can vary based on availability of up to 20 hours per week. 


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 




  • Paid time off includes 6 PTO days, paid holidays, and school breaks.

  • SCHS follows a modified year-round school calendar.



  • For positions outside Maricopa County, travel and overnight stay could be required for participation in district-level, onsite professional development, training, and meetings at designated locations within the Greater Phoenix area. (Compensation will be provided for travel, food, and lodging).



JOB SUMMARY:  The role of the Student Success Mentor at Student Choice High School serves alongside leadership and staff as a champion and mentor for students needing wrap-around services and an alternative pathway to their high school diploma. This is a dynamic individual who supports alternative education and who strongly advocates for underprivileged and underserved youth and young adults. 


Utilizing the National Alternative Education Association’s Exemplary Practices as the standard for excellence, the Student Success Mentor promotes and enhances the overall mission, vision, and culture of the organization; engages in professional development and program evaluation with all stakeholders to foster continuous improvement; adheres to all policies and procedures benefiting the success of the organization and all stakeholders; performs tasks in the development and continuous implementation of a high school program, which promotes the educational well-being of each student in the school.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Primarily serves as a mentor and champion to students for completing their high school diploma and pursuing college or career pathways.

  • Monitors and ensures the efficacy of “Mentoring Assurances,” which defines the district’s mentoring policies and procedures.

  • Maintains current and appropriate personal and college/career resources for students.

  • Assists all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic and career goals/plans through the development of individual ECAP (Education & Career Action Planning/Student Success Plans (SSPs) planning

  • Oversees the implementation, data collection, and data analysis of the Mentoring/Outreach program and Student Success Plan for designated students.

  • Oversees facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. 

  • Conducts regularly scheduled life skills and career-focused workshops.

  • Monitors, supports, and/or instructs assigned courses virtually and/or on-site in the location and at the time designated.

  • Oversees the establishment of a positive learning environment and responds to the individual needs of students. 

  • Supports the Lead Teacher and campus administration with team and stakeholder collaboration for the effective implementation of student programs.

  • Assesses student accomplishments on a regular basis and provides evidence of progress as required.

  • Maintains accurate and complete records required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

  • Ensures that all activities conform to building and district guidelines. 

  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with all members of the school, district, and community as part of a collegial team that inspires trust.

  • Attends staff meetings, professional development, PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings, and serves on staff committees as required.

  • Demonstrates professional conduct, ethical practices related to the field, and reacts to change productively and positively. 

  • Appropriately operates all classroom equipment. 

  • Supports the philosophy, core values, mission, and vision of Student Choice.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:



  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county, and city statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.

  • Knowledge of applicable District and departmental policies and procedures.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district.

  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

  • Experience in using various computers and computer programs.

  • Professional experience.

  • Desire to positively impact adolescents and young adults.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


 



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Psychology, Seminary, or any field related to mentoring youth and young adults.

  • Experience mentoring youth and young adults.

  • Bilingual.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:



Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. 

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
