Job Description - Production Management Intern

Job Title: Production Management Intern


Location: San Pedro Playhouse & Classic Theatre

Department: Production


Reports To: Artistic Associate and Production Stage Manager



The program is a ten-week engagement beginning on June 1, 2026, and ending on August 7, 2026. Interns will be paid $11 an hour.



Internship Information


This internship will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate college students who are Bexar County residents attending a college or university, as long as the student is a resident of Bexar County and able to show proof of the same. The college or University is not required to be in Bexar County. Students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree or higher are not eligible. 



Purpose


To give undergraduate students meaningful on-the-job training and experience working with a nonprofit arts organization and to foster future leaders and advocates for the arts sector in Bexar County. Selected students will develop a closer understanding of how the arts benefit their community, along with real-world applications of business skills that can be applied to their careers. 



Student Requirements


Internship period: June 1 - August 7, 2026. Students are required to work 40 hours a week. The selected intern must also agree to participate in at least two public presentations to promote the program. Interns must work at least a 40-hour week, but no more. This can include weeknights and weekends as may be required by the organization’s schedule; specific hours in a week worked can be flexible as long as the intern fulfills a 40-hour commitment.



Student Eligibility


Students who are currently enrolled as undergraduate college students who are Bexar County residents, attending a college or university in Bexar County or outside of the county, as long as the student is a resident of Bexar County, and does not already hold a bachelor’s degree. Residency means the location where the student lives when not attending college or university. For example, if the student went to high school in Bexar County, the parents live in Bexar County, and the address on the student’s transcript and driver’s license is a Bexar County address. Students selected will be required to follow the agreed-upon job description as outlined, including but not limited to a 40-hour work week.



Key Responsibilities


Production Planning and Coordination



  • Assist the Production Coordinator with scheduling rehearsals, meetings, and production timelines.

  • Communicate schedules and updates to directors, designers, cast, and crew.

  • Track deadlines and ensure production milestones are met.


Administrative Duties



  • Maintain and organize production-related documents, including rehearsal reports, budgets, and inventory lists.

  • Attend production meetings and provide detailed meeting minutes.

  • Assist in preparing reports and maintaining production records.


On-Site Support



  • Provide logistical support during load-ins, tech rehearsals, and strikes.

  • Assist in troubleshooting technical or operational issues during live performances.

  • Act as a liaison between the production team and other departments during show runs.

  • Serve as run crew, or assist with lighting, sound, or backstage operations for productions, children’s productions, and camps.

  • Teach students about technical theatre, including backstage roles, equipment use, and production processes.

  • Stage manage or assistant stage manage youth productions.


Learning and Development



  • Participate in orientation, professional development day, and mentorship opportunities.

  • Gain hands-on experience in budgeting, scheduling, and logistical planning.

  • Learn best practices in theatre production management.



Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in stage management, production management, or technical theatre is a plus.

  • Familiarity with theatre-specific tools like Stage Manager Pro or similar software.

  • Basic knowledge of lighting, sound, and set design processes.
