Job Description - Project Intern

Celebrating a milestone year of growth and impact in 2024, we expanded our client portfolio, built an impressive backlog, and successfully completed the largest project in our history. Our team thrives on delivering excellence, overcoming challenges, and building lasting client relationships. Looking ahead, we’re committed to expanding our work in education and medical facilities while embracing opportunities to go beyond—taking on transformative projects that drive progress within Texas communities. At Jackson Construction, every team member takes part in bringing our projects to life, and in doing so, each project becomes a platform to promote learning and mentorship, strengthen existing relationships, build new connections, and prepare our team members to take on new challenges.

Position Summary

As our Project Intern, you will support the success of construction projects by assisting with critical project documentation and coordination, while gaining valuable hands-on experience. We'll count on you to contribute to the management of RFIs, submittals, and project closeouts, ensure accurate record-keeping, and support team operations both in the field and at the office. In this key developmental role, you'll gain exposure to diverse construction processes, shadow experienced team members to deepen your industry understanding, and actively contribute to fostering relationships with Owners, Architects, and Subcontractors. Your organizational skills, proactive mindset, and eagerness to learn will be instrumental in driving project efficiency and maintaining quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Documentation and Record-Keeping

  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, and closeout documentation.

  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure timely distribution of updates to stakeholders.

Team Collaboration

  • Participate in weekly project meetings, including coordination, preconstruction, and Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings.

  • Capture meeting minutes, identify action items, and support follow-up tasks.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Record and distribute Architect instructions, including ASIs, Addenda, RFIs, and RFPs.

  • Provide actionable information to project teams in a timely manner.

Technology Exposure

  • Gain familiarity with construction management applications such as Procore, Bluebeam, and Phoenix Scheduling software.

Job Shadowing and Field Experience

  • Spend significant time on the jobsite shadowing project team members to gain practical exposure to construction workflows.

  • Learn about project sequencing, safety protocols, and real-world problem-solving.

Punch List and Closeout Support

  • Assist with punch list completion and documentation to ensure compliance with quality standards.

  • Partner with the Assistant Project Manager to complete closeout deliverables within project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in a Construction Management, Engineering, or related degree program.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Eagerness to learn and proactive in seeking feedback.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and external partners.

  • Willingness to work on-site at project locations within a 60-mile radius of assigned regional office.

Essential Functions

You must be able to twist, stoop, bend, squat, kneel, and climb stairs and ladders occasionally, with the ability to walk on uneven ground while navigating active construction sites. Depth perception is required to avoid excavations and other hazards, and the ability to hear warning sounds such as horns and sirens from moving equipment is essential for safety. The role involves standing for extended periods, up to seven hours of an eight-hour shift, and the occasional lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.

Recruiter Notice

Jackson Construction does not accept unsolicited resumes from any source other than directly from individual candidates. Any staffing agency or third-party recruiter (“agency”) that submits an unsolicited resume—whether through our careers page, directly to a Jackson Construction team member, or by any other means—does so with the understanding that the resume will become the property of Jackson Construction. We reserve the right to contact, interview, and hire such candidates without any obligation to pay a fee to the agency.
