Job Description - Purchasing Intern

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



  • Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are communicated, understood, and followed

  • Conduct data analysis by pulling data and creating reports to track progress and support decision-making.

  • Assist in monitoring shipments and deliveries of materials to ensure timely support for Production.

  • Assist procurement and purchasing in their daily production support activities

  • Create and/or modify reports

  • Input data into ERP/SAP program and HPSI’s scheduling software Primavera P6

  • Produce Material Expedite Report

  • Support department in miscellaneous projects

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

  • Technical Proficiency – Comfortable using ERP/SAP systems, scheduling software (Primavera P6), and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Organization & Time Management – Effectively managing multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Communication Skills – Clearly and professionally communicating with team members across procurement, production, and management.

  • Team Collaboration – Working effectively with cross-functional teams to support production and procurement goals.

  • Problem-Solving – Identifying potential issues in material delivery or data processes and supporting solutions.

  • Adaptability – Adjusting to changing priorities, project needs, and fast-paced operational demands.

  • Safety Awareness – Understanding and following all HPSI safety procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Initiative & Accountability – Taking ownership of tasks and contributing proactively to departmental projects.


 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY


This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



  • Rising Sophomores, Juniors, or Seniors currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or industrial engineering.

  • Minimum GPA: 3.0

  • Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP) or scheduling software (Primavera P6) is a plus.

  • Experience with data analysis, reporting, or Microsoft Excel is advantageous.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.

  • U.S. work authorization required — no sponsorship available


 


WORK ENVIRONMENT


Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke.  Work may be executed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. is required. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK


This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary by department, days and hours determined by department schedules.
