Job Description - Recreation Intern

The Crystal Lake Park District is dedicated to creating welcoming, vibrant and valued spaces that connect our community to recreation nature and each other. 




POSTION SUMMARY


We are seeking an enthusiastic Recreation Intern to support our programs, events, and community engagement efforts. This internship provides hands-on experience in planning, organizing, and executing recreation programs while gaining valuable skills in public service, event management, and community outreach.




Work Hours: Varied, Monday-Friday days and evenings, some weekends, up to 40 hours per week



QUALIFICATIONS


·         Currently pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Parks and Leisure Studies, Public Administration, or a related field.


·         Strong interest in community services, outdoor activities, and recreation program management.


·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with the public and team members.


·         Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.


·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.


·         Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as required by program schedules.


·         Valid driver’s license.


 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


●     Assist with programming in a variety of areas including but not limited to: athletics, youth programs, fitness, camps, aquatics and cultural arts.


●     Work closely with managers/supervisors in the planning and implementation of programs.


●     Extensive public relations including participant questions, suggestions and complaints.  Answer any questions that the public may have.


●     Complete a finance/budget project, if assigned.


●     Assist with staff training (varies with season of internship).


●     Preparation of occasional reports and statistics for the assigned Intern Supervisor.


●     Participate in evaluation of programs.


●     Assist with marketing, public relations and promotion of programs and other events. 


●     Assist with special events and projects.


●     Work with all departments including Parks, Programs, Facilities, Business Services and Marketing. 


●     Attend Team Meetings and other meetings as assigned.


●     Other duties as assigned by the Intern Supervisor.
