Under the supervision of the Assistant Coordinator – Human Resources (Recruitment), the Recruitment Student Assistant provides clerical and technical support to ASI Human Resources staff. The Recruitment Student Assistant is responsible for student employee recruitment, selection, orientation, and training.

Educational Requirements and Qualifying Experience
Must be a currently enrolled student at Cal Poly with a minimum of 6 units. Graduate students must carry 4 units at Cal Poly.
Knowledge of Windows based computer systems required (Microsoft Office).
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work cooperatively with others or independently, as the situation requires.
Ability to provide positive customer service.
Ability to apply judgment and discretion in performing confidential personnel matters.
Ability to be highly organized and have good planning skills.
Reliable, self-motivated and work well with minimum supervision.
Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience working with high volume fast-paced environment.
Ability to be flexible and adapt to change.
Ability to work with diverse populations and those with special limitations or needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Post student and intermittent positions in applicant tracking system.
Assist hiring managers in the recruitment process, including conducting reference checks, background checks, offer letters, I-9 signings and asynchronous orientation.
Maintain positive and timely communication with candidates, new hires, and supervisors.
Process new hire paperwork for new student and intermittent employees.
Maintain electronic student and intermittent personnel files.
Act as liaison between individual departments and student employees.
Perform clerical duties, including electronic filing, emails, and answering phones.
Maintain familiarity with evacuation plan for work area.
Attend all mandatory meetings, workshops, and retreats.
Provide positive customer service and working relationships with all staff and customers.
Maintain prompt hours and follow absence procedures.
Adhere to and enforce all ASI departmental policies and procedures.
Assist with special projects.
Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
The person holding this position is considered a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in ASI policy as a condition of their employment.
Period of Employment
Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time and ASI may discharge the employee at any time with or without cause.
Compensation and Hours
Starting Hourly Rate: $16.90 per hour
Hourly Pay Range: $16.90 - $16.90
Requires a minimum of Spring and Fall 2026 work availability.
Must be available for in-person staff training Aug 10-14, 2026.
