Job Description - Clean Energy Program Intern - Policy, Research and Events

Green Energy Consumers Alliance is a non-profit organization with a mission to speed the transition to clean energy. We advocate for energy policies in Massachusetts and Rhode Island to directly address the climate crisis. Our energy programs offer New Englanders: Discounts on electric vehicles; Green electricity for homes, offices, and whole communities; Efficient electricity & heating; Advocacy for climate-friendly energy policy.




Internship responsibilities include: 



  • Research, as needed, into policies and programs around building decarbonization, including heat pumps, heat pump rates, building codes, energy efficiency, grid modernization, and renewables.

  • Assist with
    Mass Save Education Grant outreach, material creation, and event planning.

  • Assist with webinars and events.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications: 



  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn more about clean energy, climate mitigation, the transportation sector, public policy, and/or the nonprofit sector. 

  • Strong research skills.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to closely follow procedures.


Eligible candidates include students or recent graduates of a college or a training program in Massachusetts, OR who are residents of Massachusetts. Prospective interns must also meet one (1) of the following:  



  • Students must have completed or will complete at least their freshman year of college the semester before the internship (24 Credits) or have graduated within the past year; 

  • If a student attends or attended a community college (or 2‐year associate program), the student must have completed at least 24 credits;

  • If a student has attended a training program, that program must have been completed within the last year;

  • If a student attends an out-of-state university, they must provide proof of
    Massachusetts residency; OR 

  • Graduate students must be currently enrolled in their program or have completed it within the last year. 



Desired Qualifications: 



  • Familiarity with energy efficiency, heat pumps, renewable energy, and energy policy with a desire to learn more.

  • Driver's license.

  • A second language.

This 12-week internship with negotiable hours (Ideally between 10-25 hours) will be conducted in a hybrid fashion, working both remotely and at least one day a week from our office in Jamaica Plain. The session will start on or after September 2, 2025, and end by December 12, 2025. The hours can be fulfilled around your schedule but must be between 9am-6pm M-F, with the exception of some evening hours for events as needed. The pay is $22.00/hr.
