Job Title: BRIDGE Family Support Specialist

Classification: Contract, Part-time to Full-time
Location: Outpatient Center in Long Beach & Field-based
Requires Travel: Yes


Summary: 
The BRIDGE Family Support Specialist will provide outreach, education, and support services to families and caregivers of youth experiencing substance use. This role involves facilitating support groups, conducting individual support sessions, and engaging in community outreach efforts. The BRIDGE Family Support Specialist will work closely with community partners and the clinical team at Roots to ensure that families receive the guidance and resources they need to support youth in their recovery journey.

This is a full-time, paid internship opportunity designed for individuals pursuing or holding professional certifications in substance use disorder (SUD) counseling or licensed in social work, marriage and family therapy, or professional counseling. The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth and families affected by substance use issues, and in school settings in particular. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Including, but not limited to, the following described duties - reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned.


  1. Requires travel within Los Angeles, Long Beach, and surrounding areas.

  2. Conduct outreach to families and caregivers of youth experiencing substance use, providing education and resources.

  3. Facilitate and lead support groups for families and caregivers of youth experiencing substance use.

  4. Provide individual support sessions to families to assist with understanding substance use and available resources.

  5. Develop and implement educational workshops and materials for families and the community.

  6. Assist in coordinating referrals to additional services, including therapy, case management, and community resources.

  7. Collaborate with the clinical and outreach teams to develop effective strategies for community engagement.

  8. Maintain detailed documentation of support sessions and outreach efforts in accordance with organizational and funding source policies.

  9. Participate in team meetings, supervision, and professional development opportunities.

  10. Ensure that all outreach and educational efforts are culturally responsive and inclusive.

  11. Represent the organization at community events, partner meetings, and networking opportunities.

Education and Experience:

  1. Active certification as a Substance Use Disorder (SUD) counselor and/or licensed in behavioral health (LMFT, LCSW, LPCC).

  2. Experience working with youth and families impacted by substance use issues.

  3. Experience facilitating support groups and educational workshops.

  4. Knowledge of community resources related to substance use and family support services.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  1. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

  2. CPR certification preferred.

  3. Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.

Desired Skills and Competencies

  1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  2. Ability to provide support in a non-judgmental and compassionate manner.

  3. Skilled in group facilitation and individual counseling techniques.

  4. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic health record systems.

  6. Strong organizational and time-management skills.

  7. Understanding of trauma-informed care and harm reduction approaches.

  • The position involves working in an outpatient treatment center as well as conducting field-based outreach and support in community settings.

  • Travel within Long Beach, Los Angeles, and surrounding areas may be required for outreach efforts.



Flexible work from home options available.



Compensation: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
