Job Summary:

Raftelis is searching for an intern to join our Stormwater Team. This paid internship includes 15-40 hours per week this Fall/Winter semester. We are flexible with the time/day and number of hours depending on the intern’s schedule. This internship will conclude at the end of the Fall semester with the possibility of continuing through Spring 2026, and potentially full-time employment.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within a dynamic consulting environment. You will play a crucial role in our data development efforts, contributing directly to projects that help communities better manage their stormwater infrastructure. You will work alongside experienced GIS professionals and consultants, benefiting from a collaborative team setting and abundant resources.

This position will be based in Raftelis’ Durham office with some remote work permitted. Parking is provided at no cost to the intern. The rate of pay is $20-25 per hour depending on experience.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive GIS data development and analysis within ArcGIS software, specifically ArcGIS Pro.
• Utilize aerial imagery to accurately identify, delineate, and capture impervious surfaces (e.g., rooftops, paved areas, driveways) within designated project areas.
• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of spatial data in accordance with project standards and specifications.
• Collaborate closely with project team members to achieve data development goals and share best practices.
• Assist with quality control and assurance of GIS datasets.
• Assist with statistical and analytical analysis of geospatial outputs

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program, preferably in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Planning, or a related technical field.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro software is required.
• Demonstrated strong attention to detail and accuracy in working with spatial data.
• Ability to interpret and analyze aerial imagery.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
