Research & Sourcing Intern

Two jobs in one, and the second is the reason this role exists.

The first is research. Go and find out things we do not know. How much capital moved through Private Equity last year and where. What terms look like across comparable platforms. Which regulators changed something that affects us. How much stablecoins are sitting idle onchain.

The second is sourcing. Find the companies. You are hunting for the most exciting businesses on the planet and working out which of them should raise on FairClub. That is the same work an analyst does at a venture fund, except the output is a pipeline rather than a memo to a partner.

Nobody hands you a list. You build it.

Tasks

Sourcing — the main event

• Finding companies. Every day. Protocol launches, seed announcements, hackathon winners, accelerator batches, GitHub activity, research papers with a company attached, founders who are interesting before they are known.
• Building and running the pipeline. Who they are, what they are building, who backed them, when they raise next, and why they would be a fit.
• First-pass screening. Team, traction, market, structure. A clear view on whether this is worth the team's time, and the reasoning behind it.
• Investment notes. One page per company that matters — what they do, why now, what the risks are, what you would want to ask them.
• Watching the market for signal. Which sectors are heating up, which funds are moving early, what got funded this week that should not have and what did not that should have.
• Warm paths. Working out how we reach a founder through someone we already know, rather than cold.

Research

• Market research on private capital formation — deal volumes, structures, terms, fees, who is doing what.
• Competitive analysis. Syndicate platforms, fund administrators, token launch platforms, traditional venture. What they offer and where they fall short.
• Regulatory tracking across the US, EU, and the jurisdictions we operate in. Not legal advice — a clear summary of what changed and who it affects.
• Written reports. Structured, sourced, and short enough that people read them.
• Data work — collecting it, cleaning it, and presenting it so a conclusion is visible.

Requirements

• Ambition, and the specific kind that shows up as output. You want to be an investor, or build the thing an investor invests in. Either works.
• Genuine interest in capital formation and how private markets work. This is the whole thing.
• Judgement about companies. You can look at a team and a product and say something more useful than "interesting." We will ask you about a company you rate that nobody else does, and why.
• You already follow this stuff. You know what launched this month. If you have to research the question "what is exciting right now," this is not your role.
• Resourcefulness. Finding companies before they are obvious means using sources most people do not bother with, and being willing to ask.
• You can write. Clear structure, no padding, conclusions stated plainly.
• Research discipline. You cite sources, you separate what is known from what is inferred, and you say when the data is thin.
• Comfort with spreadsheets and pulling numbers from primary sources — filings, registries, public databases.
• Working understanding of equity markets, or clear evidence you can get there quickly.
• Self-directed. You will be given a question and a deadline, not a supervisor.
• Coursework or a background in finance, economics, law, or a quantitative field.
• Any prior investing, scouting, or angel activity — a venture club, a scout programme, a student fund, your own small cheques.
• Any prior published research, even a student publication or personal blog.
• A network in a specific ecosystem or geography we do not cover well. Tell us which.
• Additional languages, particularly for EU regulatory sources and non-English founder communities.
