Job Description - Research Intern, Translational Biology

The Role: 


Life Edit is seeking a curious, enthusiastic and self-motivated intern researcher with a strong interest in gaining experience in genome engineering and gene editing technologies to be part of a highly collaborative team focused on advancing Life Edit’s RNA-guided editing systems. As an intern in the Translational Biology department, the selected candidate will work to develop and characterize gene editing systems for targeting diseases. A successful candidate will join our team and make significant contributions to our scientific platforms. 


Here’s What You’ll Do:  



  • Support efforts to evaluate and optimize Life Edit gene editing systems in mammalian cells to select optimal systems for therapeutic development 

  • Maintain cell culture of various mammalian cell lines  

  • Execute mammalian cell transfections to assess gene editing systems using high throughput screening 

  • Perform cell-based assays to evaluate Life Edit’s genome editors 

  • Analyze experimental data and present scientific results at team research meetings 

  • Maintain meticulous records of experimental methods, tool development, and protocols 

  • Work with a collaborative team to troubleshoot experimental procedures 


Requirements: 



  • Undergraduate student (includes Juniors and Seniors) pursuing a degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioengineering or a related field 

  • Experience in cell culture techniques including maintaining cell lines and transfecting cells, and analyzing mammalian cells using cell-based assays is highly preferred 

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, cloning, DNA/RNA extraction and purification, and NGS library preparation is highly preferred 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
