Phipps is offering a 16-week Science Education Internship to students interested in gaining experience in early childhood education and outreach initiatives.  The intern will help to strengthen and create new participatory programs, lesson plans and activities for children and families in the areas of sustainability, conservation, art and science, mindfulness, scientific communication, citizen science, healthy living, and related topics.  The goal of programming is to create a positive relationship between people and the natural world. This internship will take place in both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to all the natural elements.

The summer Science Education Internship runs from May through August, based on the student’s university schedule. The Science Education Intern will work 40 hours/week for a maximum of 16 weeks; this is a paid internship. Occasional evening and weekend work required. 

The student should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at least halfway through the course of study, one-year post-graduate, or a current graduate student. The degree focus must be in an area related to Phipps’ Research and Science Education department, e.g., environmental education, elementary education, environmental social sciences, ecological or conservation-based biological sciences, etc. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for off-site programs (mileage reimbursed) are preferred. Experience working with early childhood education is preferred.
