Service and Mission Pastoral Intern

Job Summary:

The service & missions pastoral intern is responsible for the planning and execution of programs and activities related to the Catholic Center’s campus ministry student outreach and social justice initiatives. The position reports to the Campus Minister and operates with wide latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative. Position is for the 2025-2026 calendar year.

Ministerial Character

The Chaplain is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the University Catholic Center (UCC), which the Bishop has entrusted to him.  He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring at the UCC.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Chaplain employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people).  He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed at the University Catholic Center help to extend the ministry of the Chaplain in particular ways as outlined in the job description.  Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Chaplain in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.

Essential Job Duties: 

• As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the University Catholic Center in both your professional and personal life.
• Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Attend regular meetings with direct supervisor. Frequency of meetings may vary throughout the year.
• Manage programs for greater awareness of the Church’s social teaching and coordinate UCC social justice outreach, including coordinating volunteers for weekly and monthly local service opportunities.
• Communicating upcoming service opportunities with UCC community via marketing, social media, Mass announcements
• Accompany the Campus Minister to new service site visits
• Recruit student volunteers and manage signup.com activity
• Prepare presentations occasionally to help in training students regarding UCC mission and responsibilities 
• Coordinate UCC-wide biannual donation drives
• Attend and assist the campus minister in coordinating the annual UCC spring break international mission trip.
• Includes recruitment initiatives, team formation, and social outings with the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Trainings:

• Current student at UT Austin for the 2025-2026 calendar year

Experience:

• Coordinating events and/or programs
• Group project management

Language:

• English (proficient in conversing, reading, and writing)

Catholic Requirement:

• Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.

Licenses/Certifications:

• Valid Texas driver’s license
• Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.

Working Conditions:

• Schedule flexibility: It is expected that this position will average 5 hours per week (including the summer).
• Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
• Working on weekends and evenings may be required.
• Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic prayer and liturgical celebrations.  
• All employees of the University Catholic Center are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Chaplain in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the Church.
• The UCC is an at-will employer.
• All buildings and vehicles owned by the UCC are tobacco-free
• Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
• May be required to use personal vehicle to drive to off-site locations
• Traveling outside the UCC to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.

Compensation:

This position’s compensation is hourly, on average 5 hours/week
