Job Description - StarPoint Summer Camp Communications Intern (Full-time) - Summer 2026

The StarPoint Summer Camp Communications Intern will work closely with the Family Programs Director to coordinate logistics and communication materials for StarPoint Summer Camp and Kids Science Camp. This intern will design, create, and distribute weekly communications for camper families, including camp reminders and newsletters. The intern will serve as the camp photographer and lead the team of education interns in documenting camp activities, as well as develop the end-of-camp celebration slideshow. The intern will also be responsible for coordinating day-of logistics for camp guests, presenters, and speakers, and will step into classrooms as needed to support teachers and campers.

Internship Duties




  • Design and distribute weekly communications for camper families, including camp reminders and newsletters.




  • Serve as the point of contact and coordinate day-of logistics for camp contractors and presenters.




  • Assist with logistics of adding collections objects to each cabin each week.




  • Take photos throughout camp and organize photos for use in marketing, presentations, and grant proposals.




  • Assist with preparations and logistics for StarPoint Summer Camp and Kids Science Camp.




  • Be familiar with daily camp tasks to help in cabins as needed.




  • Serve as a chaperone for StarPoint field trips and exhibit visits.




  • Contribute to an intern manual that will be referenced by future StarPoint Summer Camp Communications Interns.




  • Follow all museum health and safety guidelines and maintain proper cleaning protocols.




  • Assist with other department projects and or events as needed.




 


Internship Requirements




  • Be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree.




  • Have experience working with elementary-age children.




  • Preference will be given to juniors, seniors, or graduating seniors entering the workforce.




  • Preference will be given to candidates with photography experience.




  • Have an academic background or experience in communications, education, or a museum setting.




  • Have strong oral and written communication skills.




  • Possess experience providing exceptional customer service.




  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and research skills.




  • Have the ability to multitask.




  • Exhibit professional behavior and a responsible work ethic.




  • Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Canva.




  • Must be available for the full duration of the internship (May 8 – August 7). Full-time availability is required during the core camp period (May 8 – July 31); hours may vary outside of those dates.




  • Must be available for some nights and weekends.




Internship Requirements




  • Must be able to observe children, monitor appropriate behavior, facilitate activities, create schedules, and lead instructional programs.




  • Must be able to communicate extensively with children and staff. Must be able to hear children’s voices and assist youth in emergencies.




  • Must be able to create and prepare program materials for distribution to groups of youth.




  • Must be able to lift to 25 lbs (can be accommodated if needed).




  • Must be able to move at a child’s pace and stand, kneel, or sit for extended periods of time.
