We are seeking to host two (2) Strategic Communications Interns this summer.

What You Will Do:

You will learn from, shadow, and collaborate on projects with ERA’s Strategic Communications Team. Taking into account your strengths and areas of interest, as well as our team’s needs, learning opportunities and project focus may include: social media content creation, digital marketing trends monitoring, graphic design, digital communications data collection and analysis, communications campaign strategy, event planning/support, presenting information to stakeholders, and/or narrative shifting through community storytelling.

Who Should Apply:

  • Undergraduate students; preference will be given to those planning to pursue a career in nonprofit work, public policy, or public service, who are studying any of the following: communications, marketing, multimedia, public relations, digital media, nonprofit management, humanities, political science, or another area of study supporting the student’s plan to enter the social justice field.

  •  We are happy to consider candidates who are not pursuing an undergraduate degree, as long as they are at least 18 years old and have a strong interest in pursuing a career in nonprofit communications.

What ERA Is Looking For:

A successful intern will offer a blend of creativity, project management skills, and practical experience with social media platforms. We’d love to host someone with:

  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to civil rights, gender equity, and social justice

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Experience with Canva preferred

  • Strong written communication skills are required

  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

What Is Your Takeaway:

An enriching experience at a nonprofit organization working toward social justice; exposure to a variety of Communications functions and skills; experience working independently on projects as well in collaboration with others; social media / digital marketing data analysis, and other skills you can add to your résumé/CV.

Hours, Location, and Compensation:

The internship will run for approximately 10 weeks from Mid-June to Mid-August. Interns must be willing to work 15 to 20 hours per week. The internship may be fully remote anywhere within the United States, but preference will be given to those who can work a hybrid work schedule in or near San Francisco.

This is an unpaid internship. You will be eligible to receive monthly reimbursement for cell phone expenses for the duration of the internship.

How to Apply:

Please submit your application with a Cover Letter by clicking HERE. In your Cover Letter, tell us about your academic pursuits, why you are interested in the Communications Internship, and how your interests or goals align with ERA's work and mission.

A résumé is optional but encouraged. You may address your cover letter to Jess Eagle, Associate Director of Strategic Communications, describing your interest in this particular position and your personal connection to ERA’s mission. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and candidates will be contacted based on decision. We look forward to hearing from you!
