Job Description - Student Associate - Reporting & Analytics

Administrator:  Director, Reporting & Analytics


Experience:  Prior experience not required; data experience preferred


Education Required:  High school diploma or equivalent and enrolled at MSU


Preferred Availability: 10 hours per week with flexibility


Location:  Onsite in Bozeman, MT; hybrid opportunities may be available based on performance.


Overtime Status:  Non-exempt; eligible for overtime


Preferred Start Date:  On or by September 30, 2026



MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Reporting & Analytics Student Associate at the Montana State University Alumni Foundation (“Alumni Foundation”) is responsible for providing assistance to staff members of the Advancement Services and Reporting & Analytics team. This team supports organizational decision-making by maintaining accurate information, developing reports, improving processes, and assisting departments across the organization with data and information needs. The duties of this position include but are not limited to: data quality support, information maintenance, reporting assistance, documentation, and special projects related to data and technology. This position reports to the Director, Reporting & Analytics. 



Anticipated distribution of time and effort outlined below. 



  • 40%       Data Quality and Information Maintenance

  • 35%       Reporting and Information Support

  • 25%       Various Other Projects



SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Assist with maintaining data quality and integrity through data review, validation, updates, and organization within enterprise information systems.

  2. Support the creation, testing, verification, and distribution of reports and information requested by various departments.

  3. Review information for accuracy, completeness, and consistency and identify potential areas for improvement.

  4. Assist with data cleanup, record maintenance, and ongoing data quality initiatives.

  5. Create and maintain documentation, procedures, and reference materials related to reporting and information management processes.

  6. Participate in special projects involving data analysis, reporting, process improvement, and business operations.

  7. Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness in reporting and information management activities.

  8. Affect and maintain a professional, proactive, positive, highly collaborative, and performance-centric work environment.

  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Reporting & Analytics.

  15. Curiosity and willingness to learn about data management, reporting, analytics, and organizational operations.


 


PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:


Students pursuing coursework or degrees in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:



  • Computer Science

  • Data Science

  • Business Analytics

  • Management Information Systems

  • Statistics

  • Mathematics

  • Business

  • Engineering

  • Information Technology

  • Other related fields


Prior experience is not required. A willingness to learn, strong attention to detail, and an interest in working with data and information are highly valued.
